Red face Canned questions

Ok, so I'm not the "cannedy savant", so I figured I'd ask for help...

So Jemma's doing ok on Evo Rabbit, but it seems the stocks have dried up at our usual stores (not all Jemma's fault ), so I'm going to have to switch her to something else till they get the order in... Do I have to do it gradually? Or can I just pop in another protein source (i.e. beef) just like that? I mean she was put on the rabbit cold turkey and it only took her about a day to get used to it...

The other thing is, the stool is firm but smells identical to the can... Is that normal?

Prin, why not just buy a rabbit at the grocery store, cook it up in a pot with just enough water to cover it, add some carrot, broccoli, potato and simmer for about 30 minutes once come to a boil. Then you just shred the rabbit meat like you would chicken. Bet it's cheaper in the long run than the cans?

No, there won't be a long run.. The goal is no chewing for about 2 weeks...

But that does sound tasty... If I ever do home-cooked, I know who to ask.

They're ok... Her bottom gum is still 1/2 whitish and 1/2 purpley though... I hope it's ok...

What if you put BMD's recipe through the blender? Hugs for Jemma.

Hi Prin, I'm not much help because I don't have a super sensitive or allergic dog... but Maia is a bit sensitive, and even with her we can switch from flavour to flavour of the same brand of canned food and she seems fine. What about human baby food? Some of it is meat (I forget what Jemma can't have)...

Jemma just can't have gluten, I think... The rest she's ok with. I guess I'll try out the Evo 95% beef tonight then... See what happens.

I don't give my boys canned very often but if Jemma is only allergic to gluten I don't think there would be a problem with changing the canned.

Well, now I know the regular Evo canned isn't nearly as tasty as the rabbit... Boo actually finished eating his kibbs faster than Jemma eating a can... I mean, the first can of rabbit I gave her she swallowed in one bite. Literally. I didn't moosh it up, so it was still in can form and she just downed the whole thing.. So it must be a big difference in taste...

Well, I did a smell test and the Evo is practically odorless compared to the Evo 95% rabbit... That's about as far as I go.

Once the rabbit is cooked you can puree the whole lot, liquid and all with bones removed. It will most likely be the same as what is in the can but a bit tastier?

Well, the can is just rabbit + vitamins and nothing else. I'll have to go see if I can get rabbit way up here... It's hard to even get a steak , so I'll have to shop around.

i've never seen a whole, skinned rabbit for less than $16 around here... and they're small, mostly bones...

$16, eh? Hmm... The cans are $3.70ish..... But she likes the beef ones (not as much as the rabbit, but enough for me!), and they're $2.29, so that works for me too.

yeah, rabbits are super expensive... that's why i've never bought one and i can't imagine there would be much meat after boiling and removing the bones, either. well at least not the ones i've seen...

No wonder it's almost double the price of the beefy one... Hmm... Maybe I should get into GM rabbits... You know, make the flanks so big they can't walk just so we can get more meat?
