Boo already tried to bully her. She was lying there, and he was like, "Harummph! Get off that bed!" lol (Of course, he didn't get away with it...)

Jemma gets canned food for 10 days and pain killers for 4. I don't think she'll be all roses and giggles tomorrow.

Oh Prin, I just saw this now! I'm so glad Jemma's ok!!!! Ugh, I hate when they have to go under...waiting is the worst! Poor baby needs lots of spoiling now!
Do they know what caused the teeth to die like that?

Just saw this thread now - Awwwwwwwwwwwwww!! Poor Jenna, I am not fond of seeing dentists either - a certain pediatric dentist who I carpool with excluded. I hope she'' recover quickly! It reminds me of when mine have had surgery, they are all wobbly and so disoriented and you don't want them to be in any pain and like babies, they can't tell you exactly how they feel - you have to listen, diagnose the best you can and figure it out.

I would hate that "electric shock thing" too. Sounds like something from the dark ages. I always ask my dentists' friends why - in the year 2007 - tho say 2006 (I have not yet asked anyone this Q this yr yet, lol) we still have ancient ways in the world of dentistry. Oh I know we have good drugs and great cosmetic stuff but we still have not figured out how we can say, great lasers for children so that the treatment will last and be effective. I love laser therapy in dentistry, even if the results do not always last. Lasers can remove the fear of dental care: no more scary noise of the whining high-speed, strong vibrations of the slow-speed handpiece, smell of cut tooth particles and best of elimination of the need for local anesthesia (read no needles with local anesthesia. meds) The CDA opposed laser treatments for so long - and still have some aversion to them (Their official position is one of those masterpieces that says nothing - sort of if you get sued because it does not work, you're on your own.), esp in pediatric dentistry which I have heard ad nauseam shall we say, lol (And as much as I loathe anecdotal stuff - I have laser work done in Fla and yes, it does not last but I don't care - if all I have to do is visit a great dentist in Fla who uses lasers every 10-15 years, I do not care). And if I were a child, I would not care either tho I do have to say I could not condone that in children either (ie a treatment that does not last). I had an implant that required removal and "fixing" - to make a long explanation short, lol - and while the CDA's own research says this work is contraindicated because it would leave a crater like formation of the implant surface. They did not however study every kind of laser available. There are some good results with CO2 lasers and peri-implant probs in other countries tho so I am going to the Fla in a few weeks to see my parents and a dentist, lol

I bet vets use lasers on pets all the time. (Which means my cats may be getting better dental care than me in Canada anyway, lol)

Seriously, I hope Jenna will feel fine soon - and I am sure she will. She'll also - since she has you wrapped around all 4 of her paws - will milk it for all it's worth it but hey, that's what moms are for, right?

Get well soon, Jenna!

(sorry for the diversion - dentistry is not my fav topic, lol)

No, the shock thing is just to test if there's feeling in the tooth. It's generally really mild and just an uncomfortable buzz, and they only up the level if the dog doesn't react. IMO, it's necessary since the doggies can't otherwise answer if they have feeling in a tooth or not.

As far as humane, anyway, don't forget this dentist is the one who really, strongly advises root canals rather than extractions. He says it's far more humane. If I had the extra $800 lying around...

Well, they only removed one dead one (the other one turned out to be alive). The dead one was broken, and the pulp had died (or had done whatever pulp does to lose feeling...). He didn't mention anything about the teeth looking weaker than normal or anything, so I'm guessing it's just hard playing and chewing...

Oh OK, thx for the explanation - it was just that something referred to as "that shocking thing" sounded rather outdated and scary, <g> Glad to hear he is a good vet - sounds like it actually.

Here's hoping for as quick recovery! (But I am sure you will help Jenna in that!)

Thanks! This vet is the best! He's the only dental specialist around. He could have charged me $100 extra for a tartar removal, but right after looking at her more closely, he took it off the table. I thought that was pretty honest of him.

Oh that's a relief! I was afraid she had some weird gum disease, LOL! Poor Jemma, what a life, playing too hard. So glad she's ok though!

Great news about Jemma Prin
Good to hear that she is home and there is nothing serious going on.

Hopefully she will feel a little better today than she did last night.
Give her lots of hugs and kisses, and to Boo too (although I am sure I don't need to tell you that )

She's better today. Very licky (licking her teeth all the time) and was VERY happy to eat the Evo Rabbit canned... Let's hope she digests it....

She slept hard last night too. No movement at all.

lol Jemma isn't too picky... I only gave her 1/2 of a 1/2 a portion... Hopefully because it's so little, she'll be able to digest it..

Just saw this thread today Prin, kinda glad I only found it when Jemma was okay again so I didn't have to worry with you all. I got to skim forward and read the end as it were.

Kudo's to Dad for helping out. My mother would certainly be hard pressed to lend me money for the dogs. My son would, but not sure about Mom. But BF would come across if we needed to anyhow so no worries. But so glad Jemma is recovering well now.

Speedy recovery all the way for her. Good mommy Prin. How's Boo doing today? Is he happy again?

Hey Prin, I just saw this thread a few minutes ago so I'm glad to see that Jemma is fine. How nice of your Dad! Good luck with the healing process Princess Jemma!

Thanks. She's doing alright. Still pretty tired, but determined to eat any crunchy things that are available to her.

Can you not just soften up her regular food so she doesn't suffer belly discomforts?

Yeah... I could do that eh? But that wouldn't make her special for 10 days... She seems to be ok on the rabbit so far.. It's a simple formula, which probably makes it easier on her. Just rabbit.

Glad Jemma came through OK, and with 1 less pulled toothy. for a speedy healing (and that you catch her with the crunchy stuff before she does any damage.

I agree with Byrd and would just soften her regular kibble then you can just add a wee bit of the canned to make it "special". Glad she is feeling better today. Give her some hugs for me.

She's ok. Boo started barking again, lol. He stopped when Jemma was gone and today he was letting it alllllll out. He pretends he doesn't care, but he's happy that she's home. You can see it in his eyes.

Jemma's on the Barking at the moon... I'm not sure a) it would soften easily- they're very hard kibbles... and b) that I would tolerate the smell of it soaking...
