Suggestions for More Advanced Training

Hi everyone...it's been awhile since I posted. For those of who don't know us, Lily is my black standard poodle who is about to turn 6 mos. old. We have done 8 weeks of puppy classes where we covered the basics and I must admit I was not thrilled with the quality of the classes. Since I live in a very small community, this is all that is available. So, I would like to do more with Lily but I don't know what?! Can anyone suggest a good book or video that I could learn from?

I believe Tenderfoot has a great training video. Send her a pm and I'm sure she could point you in the right direction. You can pretty much take anything TF says as gold. Hope that helps!!

I have been to trainers and there are some so-so ones and some that are excellent and that offer different levels of obedience classes,

If you are anywhere near Putnam, Ontario(between London and Ingersoll) there is a excellent one , her name is Smith off of Hwy 2 turn south on Putnam Rd. just before the 401 overpass on left hand side. It has been several years since I went to her, I understand she still offers training. though I don't have contact info for her, She then offered basic which is very intensive, advanced, and agility classes. I could literally recognize anyone who went thru her classes when they where out walking their dogs, by the way they held the leash, by the feet they lead off on and how intently the dog focused on the owners face during the walk.

Lilybug - You can also find lots of good ideas on this board. Your poodle can have a huge vocabuarly right now. Its really a matter of creating an action and give it a hand signal and a word. Your done. You aren't really teaching her anything she can't already do, you can just work on capturing it or creating it and then make that positive connection.
Think of games you can play, name her toys, name the rooms of the house, start teaching her to use that great nose of hers - you are only limited by your imagination.

TF no problem. It seems like everytime I had a question about Jesse's behavior I would do a search and your replies would be the answer to my question and worked every single time. Even with the things I wasn't looking for things, I've learned so much from your replies. You are truly a blessing to this forum! Thanks for everything you do!
