Boxer and pups left to die in cold

I received notice of this monday morning and I noticed it was on the news last night and the papers today, man I hope they find the person that did this...poor pet, even her "privates" were frost bitten because of the afterbirth...she is now safe in a mastiff/boxer rescue. she was left while in labour in the back of the spca pick up truck on a saturday and not found till sunday when staff arrived, luckily one worker went outside. If you go on Montreal blog you will see more pics.

OTTAWA — A dog left in the back of a pickup truck in frigid weather while giving birth was recovering Wednesday with five of her nine newborn puppies.

Four of the female’s litter froze to death before they were found behind the Outaouais SPCA by workers at the shelter early Sunday morning. The dogs might have been left outside for as long as 10 hours.

The puppies and their mother, who has been named Nala after the character in The Lion King, have been moved to the Valley Boxer and Mastiff Rescue home, run by France Turcotte. She identified the dog’s breed as a boxer-mix.

“I thought I’d heard it all,” said Turcotte. “This is cruelty. She had been neglected, her nails had been overgrown … And she’s very thin, so she was being underfed.”Turcotte said Nala’s vulva suffered injuries from being exposed to the frozen metal of the pickup truck. She also had frostbite on her upper lip, and the puppies have some red patches of frostbite on their skin.

But she said they were doing much better late Wednesday; Nala was eating and drinking water and was in “good spirits.”

Turcotte said she has seen a definite upswing in the number of dogs being abandoned. She said 2011 was the busiest year for the rescue home, saving 21 dogs that year alone.

“I’m not angry about all this,” she said. “But really, truly how I feel about this is I feel bad that [the owner] felt that was the only option available to him or her … A dog is just not something you can throw out or throw in the back of a truck.”

“People need to be educated. Cesar Millan on TV is great but he can only do so much … People need to understand that a pet is a member of your family and they require money and care.”

The pups will spend the next six weeks recovering at the rescue home before returning to the Outaouais SPCA, where they will be put up for adoption.

Anyone wanting to donate to Turcotte’s rescue operation — she said she would appreciate money, canned puppy food and laundry detergent to wash the puppies’ linen — can go to valleyboxerrescue.com

I seen that on facebook how horrible..
A man who looks into a collie's eye to receive an icy stare is but a fool. Be at one with man's best friend and through his eyes you will see his very soul.

If I could be an animal cop.....how hard is it to surrender a dog to the spca? I cry every time I read something like this.

Stuff like this really gets my blood boiling. That poor dog and those poor pups!

Well thank goodness she survived and a few of her pups. I don't understand either how some folks can be so ignorant. Fortunately now the angels have rescued her and she is in loving, caring hands.
