Nice comment from OSPCA...'only 100 animals PTS'. ONLY... that 'only' is a heck of alot.

If 'ONLY' they reached out to the public and the rescues for help...if only.

Yup, I agree, Chris. These are healthy animals that needed some vet care to become adoptable.

Thanks for posting the letter.

They didn't need Vet care in the first place, they had no ailments...but checking to make sure they were fine was going to be time consuming and costly......answer to that....kill them all it's quicker.

What goes around comes around.

Chris,I got a letter from them asking if I would consider donating againsince 96 animals are now free of ring-worm.

ALL the animals would have been free of ring-worm if treated,no animal needed to dieIMO and no,they are not getting my money..

At the Memorial Blessing in Newmarket, Ontario today a table was set up in honour of the 102 animals killed by the OSPCA in May when they announced their dispicable decision.......People haven't forgotten one iota.

The Newmarket Branch of the OSPCA still remains closed.....the animals continue living in trailers on the property.

Who would have thunk it would take this long.

FINALLY, the York Region Branch of the OSPCA opened it doors today - It has been closed since May 11th, 2010 due to an alleged ringworm outbreak....which never existed

Very quietly at noon they opened....it is no longer called the York Region Branch of the OSPCA, but something along the lines of the Provincial Education Centre...their capacity for animals in less than half of what it was before

Sooooo...who do they think is picking up the slack in available shelter space. Or did Ontarions just suddenly stop breeding their animals needlessly and dumping them via the consumer chain on the rest of society when they are no longer wanted/ needed?

The Meet Your Match program is used here the Hamilton SPCA (with whom I've adopted from and volunteer for over a decade now), with great success, for both cats and dogs. It has reduced the number of adoption returns, long term stayers and impulse adoptions by matching people with the right pet.

Hopefully they get it right then......I've read about the success of it in the US. Although I really think that they could have turned to following Bill Bruce's method instead of hopping over the border.

Sadly a report was in our newspaper today that read that there in fact was NO RINGWORM outbreak and that these poor animals lost their lives due to incompetance. It indicated that they jumped to conclusions about the outbreak and failed to complete further laboratory testing to confirm it.

The toal number of animlas euthanized was 57. How heartbreaking.

I read it in the Star,it's a good thing people and the media got a hold of this.or all of the animals would have been killed.
57 is still a lot of innocent lives lost
