Unhappy Ear balloon

My Lady, a Boarder Collie/Spaniel's ear has balloon-like growth in the bottom of her right ear. I noticed it when she tried to scrach it and wimpered. How can I treat it? Should I try to disinfect and drain it? Please help us. Thank you

Hi there,

I would take your girl to the vet, anything like that calls for a vet to look at.

It sounds like she has a hematoma. They're fairly common in ear flaps -- fluid gathers between the layers of the flap and it can be quite painful for the dog.

Your best bet is to have a vet look at it -- if it's bad enough, the vet will open it up and stitch it so that it can drain and heal. Don't try to do it on your own -- it would be very painful for the dog and you'd risk infection.
