Chase is doing okay. He still has a bit of fluid at his knee and sometimes limps a little though. We still have our fingers crossed.

Yes, it has gone down but there is this one stubborn little lump by his incision right where his knee bends.

Oh Rainbow, that is so frustrating! I'm glad to hear some of the swelling has gone down at least! Hopefully the continued antibiotics will beat that last little lump into shape.

Thanks Steph and Growler.

I know my "little" lab needs to be playing. I am already realizing that I'm going to have a problem cuz he's not getting socialized enough.

Does the vet know if that last little lump is just inflammation, or if there's a pocket of infection in there yet? Sigh...sure wish it would clear up already!

Poor Chase is gonna think he's never gonna get to run and play with his buddy ever again!!

Hang in there, Chase...the day is coming!

Maybe just aspirating the fluid will allow the pocket to heal

Thanks Hazel and Growler. His incision looks awful too. The incision on his other leg was hardly noticeable a month later but this one looks like hell.

Well that's no good! I hope they can find out what kind of an infection it is and get the right antibiotic for it!

I'm so sorry that you and Chase have to go through all this... What an ordeal it's been!

was it the same Dr who sutured him? or is it cuz of the excess fluid that the incision looks bad you think?

Yeah, it was the same vet in Kelowna that did the first operation. My vet here said it's because the fluid was pushing against the incision.

 *sigh*

It the incision hot to the touch? If it is & not because he's licking it, that might mean it is infected  I think if just fluid it wouldn't be hot right?

I def need a sighing smilie

sorry no help here then

Cally had a small abcess in his leg once & it was hot, also when he had a fibrous mass (I think he hit it on the stairs or something, it hurt, so then he licked constantly) on his hock it also was hot to the touch - that went away on it's own after he was prevented from licking it

good that it's not hot & doesn't have a temp

Rainbow, My thoughts have been with you these last few weeks, hoping and praying for Chase to get better soon. The poor guy has been through a tough time, and this is all on top of the hard time that your hubby is having.

I will keep my and that the bad things will soon be over for all of you as Hubby can return to work, and for Chase to get better ASAP

Gosh Rainbow, this hits pretty close to home. It's so frustrating when things don't go as hoped/planned...fluid buildup...incisions not cooperating...poor Chase....poor youse.
that everything goes well Thursday and this can get behind you soon...

Thanks everyone.

The first TPLO surgery on his other leg went so well. I really expected this one to be the same. At this rate it's going to be next spring before he can run and play again.

Chase got the fluid drained and now we play the waiting game. The cytology results should be back on Monday and the culture on Wednesday. My vet said the fluid was quite cloudy but that is to be expected due to the inflammation. She drained it all but it could come back. We still have him on the Clavamox until we get the culture results.
