a sick beagle

My name is mary and im 16 years old my aunt called me today worried about her beagle puppy Rusty. My aunt just got Rusty 2 weeks ago and today when she called she said that Rusty's gums and tongue are turning white. She also said that He is eating but it doesnt look like hes gaining any weight and that he looks skinnier. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out whats wrong with my aunts puppy. Taking rusty to the vet is the last thing she wants to do because shes running short on cash. please help!

I'm afraid pale-coloured gums are a very bad sign in a puppy, something is attacking his system and he needs to see a vet. The weight loss may be for the same reason. Your aunt needs to beg borrow or steal the money because an animal that small could die in a matter of hours without treatment. Until then, he must drink, even if she has to feed him with a spoon because dehydration is equally dangerous.

Maybe she could talk to the people she got him from. Really they should share the cost because the puppy was certainly already sick when she got him. It would also be useful for the vet to know if the other puppies in the litter are also sick.

Tell her not to wait!

If Rusty has had weight loss he obviously lost it before yesterday?? weight loss is serious stuff! I agree you need to speak to your Aunt and try to convince her to see a vet..even just to have him examined? Maybe the vet will take payments? some do? I wouldnt leave it though! Good Luck and let us know how you make out.....

This is a very sick puppy who needs to see a VET not soon but NOW. White gums and weight loss means that blood and nutrients aren't getting to your puppy's brain and body. It could be something like parasites or it could be something more serious ~ in either case it has gotten to the point where you MUST see a VET now.

My aunt called the people she got Rusty from and it turns out that they were feeding Rusty special puppy food. They gave my aunt some cans of food and already he is doing much better! His gums and tongue are pink again and he eats all his food. THANKS!!!!
