Looking for dry food alternatives for older cat

our kiity doesn't seem to be eating as much dry food these days. we normally give him iams weight control with hairball which is a regular hard crunchy food. he's fine with the canned foods we give him once a day. I'm wondering if he's having problems with his teeth. he's about 14 if I remember correctly. can anyone recommend a soft but dry food we can leave out for him during the day? I'm making a vet appointment soon as it's time for his rabies shot and I plan on asking them about this too. just wondering if anyone here has similar issues. on a related note, we tried a different dry food not long ago but he wouldn't touch it so we went back to iams. I guess you can't teach an old cat new tricks.
thanks,
dave

Has your kitty slowed down his activity level as well? At 14 kitty may not need to eat as much if he's not as active.
I feed Costco Kirkland maintenance cat dry kibble to my 12 yr old kitty and some days he eats more some days he eats less. Just depends on the day kinda like people I guess.

we said goodbye to Ozzy. He stopped eating and drinking. He was having a lot of trouble breathing and nothing was helping. We couldn't watch him suffer anymore. Goodbye old friend.it all just came on so fast.

I don’t recommend that you feed niche, high-cost, brands sold in pet shops, groomers or on the Internet either because the small companies that make them do not have the resources to do frequent quality control and analysis of their products. If a problem does occur, not enough pet owners use any particular one for the FDA to be alerted promptly. Products produced by small companies are also more likely to vary from batch to batch than those sold by larger food corporations. They also tend to sit on the store shelves longer and get stale.
