Unhappy Some sad news

My beautiful girl Blaze was diagnosed today with CDS.

The vet asked for a week so he can do some research. If at all possible they like to treat using holistic methods. Right now for her slightly elevated liver enzymes she takes 1 tab of SAM-e daily. He's hoping he can find something natural to put her on rather than more meds with may further tax her kidney/liver.

If you can spare some good thoughts for us it would sure be appreciated.

She's started having some accidents in the house and seems kind of lost and confused at times like staring at the wall, aimless wandering, increased whining but she still recognizes us.

OH NO....I am so very sorry to hear about Blaze.

Are you also giving her milk thistle to help her liver as it is also supposed to be quite beneficial.

I just googled canine CDS and found this from http://www.thensome.com/cds.htm.....

Quote:
some holistic suggestions for CDS

Some people have used the supplement Neuro PS, Phosphatidylserine to help with the cognitive functioning. Melatonin, also an antioxidant with many great properties and which can go beyond the brain barrier, can be used to help your companion sleep if insomnia is one of the symptoms....Proneurozone..These are just suggestions. It is always wise to discuss whatever you give your companion with your vet!

Keeping Blaze in my thoughts.

You might want to talk to your vet about Denamarin. It is a supplement that has both SAM-e and Milk Thistle. My Tipper took it for a while and it really did help lower her liver enzyme levels.

http://www.allivet.com/Denamarin-p/28724.htm (please note, I have not ordered from this vendor so I am not making any recommendation for this company. The description information is just good. If the link violates any board policies, please remove it.)
