Extrem Allergies

My 2 Dogs, ValleyBull and Yorkie both have allergies that came on in the summer, I go to the vets monthly and all they do is give a dose of antibiotics and steroids, They work while I am giving them, but once They are gone the itching and digging start all over again. By ValleyBull will have bumps and you can see his skin is red in some areas, I have tried changing food to lamb and rice and benedryl but that doesn't work at all, I am wondering if reactine would work, any help would be great, I even made my own food for awhile but it didn't work either,

If the allergies appear seasonally and food changes aren't making a difference, you're likely dealing with environmental allergies rather than food. You can test for environmental allergies so you can better manage what the dogs are exposed to.

Please do not give your dogs any medication without first clearing it with the vet, alot of human meds have ingredients that are toxic to animals.

While the active ingredient in reactine was used in a CVMA study of 23 dogs with Canine atopic dermatitis only 4 had a satisfactory reduction of puritis and there were 2 dogs that experienced side effect of vomiting several times over a course of 12-24 hours.

I think it is far better for your dogs to find and eliminate, if possible, the source of the allergy & perhaps there is a natural/holistic solution. Long term use of meds can lead to kidney/liver issues further down the road

Did you try a raw diet?

Thanks for the replys, no I haven't done a raw diet, I have no idea of where to even start with it, I did ask my vet and she said to never do that, well she wants to run blood work and alergey tests, and thats alot of dollars, over the last 6 months I have already spent a thousand dollars on them, I don't like the steriods because it makes them aggressive. Is there a good natural dog food? I can by in canada?

What are you feeding them now? And what have you fed them in the past?

I would feed them a grain free kibble like Orijen or Acana Provincial.
