importing a cat from australia to canada

hey guys
would be great if you can help me out here. my wife, who is canadian, wants to take the cat back to toronto with her for good. has anyone ever done such a move about taking a cat with them into Canada?

What are the paperwork requirements like? The cat is fully vaccinated and all but I just need to get a head start to get the process started!!! Any help would greatly be appreciated.

hi you have to contact the airline that you are flying with and I am pretty sure. Check with the incoming country what paperwork they requier. I am flying my cats to the UK and we had to start all the paper work 7 months before.

every animal that enters a country has to have a microchip and rabies vaccine... 30 days after the vaccine they have to have a blood test...

once the blood test is done... the animal is not allowed to fly for 6 months...

the animal will have to get a 3rd world country certificate to fly...

as far as I know Canada follow a pretty similar incoming routine as they do with outgoing and my cats have to do all that to leave here... and all paperwork has to be stamped by the government.

They have to fly in a airline approved crate and most airlines now have them in Cargo. Australia is a rabies free country...

This is who you contact. http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/...rt/petse.shtml

saami, try contacting a pet transport company such as Dogtainers
http://www.dogtainers.com.au/

They will be able to help with all the transport requirements, plus give you a quote for the transport of the cat - it might be easier to hand everything over to them, they will take care of all paperwork, flight arrangements, etc..

The import requirements to Canada are much easier than from Canada to the UK!! Pets don't need a pet-passport to get into Canada...

Have a look here: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/..._chat_1e.shtml

Most imortantly, however you end up transporting your cat, please make sure it is not sedated at all - sedation can cause blood pressure to drop too low in the hold compartment and casue some serious porblems, also, it's a long flight and the cat would come around halfway through and become very disoriented and scared - better they deal with the whole trip awake and aware. Cats, especially, deal very well with air trips.
