Relocating to Montreal with 5 Dogs + 4 Cats

I'm in Montreal early, setting the stage for a big move from Hong Kong. My spouse, daughter will join in the summer, with my nine animals (if you've never moved internationally with pets, it can be a major headache).

I work in St-Henri and have seen that the Island is a no-go if I want this many pets and access to trails for outside walks. I know I need to live on the 'Shores'. My pets are all mongrels/mixed-breed rescues.

My questions are:

1. Which municipalities other than Sherrington allow this many pets?
2. When people say to register as a kennel, is it a complicated process?
3. When people say 'out of the municipality' or in 'rural' designated zones, how do we see that on a map? Do municipalities clearly have these designated zones?

I realize these are tough questions. Any help and advice would be VERY welcome.

Thanks!

You can try making some phone calls to the towns you're thinking of moving or try checking out the town web sites and see if they have the info you're looking for.

Thanks for your reply.

How I've been trying to solve this challenge so far is:

1. Check out the map for a municipality.
2. Look up its bylaws to see if it's OK or not.
3. If it's not clear, write the city for more info.

It looks like Village de Senneville, Kirkland and Sherrington would be OK. I've sent emails to Vaudreuil-Dorion and Baie d’Urfe.

Problem is that this doesn't tell me if it's actually OK for dogs or not.
For example, Kirkland may accept multiple pets but it doesn't look especially good for dogs... Where could you go to give them good exercise?

For reference, this is where they're moving from...

Having lived in Montreal region previously for 15 years, I can tell you that Angell Woods is a great option for walking your dogs - off leash is still available I believe. You may have to get in the car and take the dogs there though. You'll find that most parks within the municipalities do not allow dogs (even on leash) which is frustrating. We lived in Riguad which is further west/north from Vaudreiul and there are lots of walking trails out that way too which are dog friendly.

Good luck and kudos to you for bringing all the pets!
