Chris..it is just off Hwy 12 south of Orillia but on the Lake Simcoe Side of
the Hwy. Someone told me with the summer animals stay close to water as most of the streams and ponds have dried up for a water source and both of these last two calls are just a stones throw from each other.

I still haven't connected with the man who actually encountered him...it wasn't just a sighting apparently the dog came up to befriend his dog.
I hope the neighbor putting out the food doesn't try to catch him. The lady I spoke with said she is still putting the food out but the dog won't come near her.

Can you leave a prized toy attached to a bell/empty cans that will wake the home owners up if Sable comes around and tries to retrieve her toy, or even a blanket. Anything with Sable's or your scent on it that will attract her enough to come close to the house. It may even keep Sable in the immediate area if she thinks her family is around.

Good luck, Shirley and bless you for not giving up.

No Luck

I did find the person who Sable had contact with...but he was only there
one afternoon. It was on Friday and he hasn't been back since. The man
there did get him to come and take food from his hand after about an hour.

He played in the backyard after they talked him out of some baby ducks, and was with their two dogs. They tried to get a collar and leash on him as they thought he must belong to one of the cottagers in the area but he would not have anything to do with a collar.

Apparently this is not the first time in the area...they saw him about two weeks ago..so this looks like part of his circle and my guess is he is back in Orillia now.. There is no way for him to get to the next section of housing along the lake without going thru a very swampy area or going back out to the highway so my gut feeling is he has followed the road along the lake back to town.

I was at least encouraged that he had human contact as most people tell me he is wild now and no one will be able to catch him but somewhere he has had contact in the past couple of weeks. The man also gave him some dry dog food..he said he ate some not gorging and didn't eat it all....Sable hates kibble...holds out for the MEAT, so that didn't surprise me.

I guess it is the wait game for another call but at least I know he has another area he frequents!

Shirley,It is fantastic how many people know about Sable, thanks to your determination.I am 99,9% sure one day soon,he'll get caught.
In the back of my mind,I wonder what living on his own for nearly a year, has done to his demeanor, however nobody has told you he's behaving aggressively, right?
First though,he has to come home then you can deal with any changes in him, maybe once he sees you again, the home he loved, everything will be back to normal.
Why would someone not try to trap him, with fresh meat or canned food in a humane trap(from HS),especially where he's been coming occasionally,or has that already been tried?

Everyone who has encountered him for a short time doesn't get the opportunity to trap or even befriend.

Those who have had the opportunity have not known he was the missing elusive Sable.

Unfortunatly the last two places neither get the paper...one out of the area and the other in a cottage area where they don't distribute the free paper

The man at Uptergrove yesterday thought it was someone who was away at work who's dog had gotten loose. He said he tried to get a collar on him
to keep him til he could find out who owned it.. had he done that I'm sure
someone would have known...but Sable had no part in that and he hasn't seen him again. He offered to go when I get the call as he felt he could
coax him near again and he also lost a dog that was never found so he understood what I am going thru.

There are a lot of people on the lookout for him in that area and also the animal control for Ramara was called and he has been patrolling the area.

I would take the man up on his offer Shirley, since it takes you over an hour to get there. Maybe and I say maybe, he might have more luck with a rope with a loop rather than trying to put a collar on Sable. I don't think that Sable has turned wild, he's looking and knows that the folks that try to catch him are not the ones he is looking for. Hopefully Ramara animal control is more co-operative than the Orillia outfit. You will get him back Shirley, I know you will. Did you take one of your girls with you?

Just to update on the Sable hunt...he was still being seen in the
Uptergrove area south of Orillia as of Wed...I did get a call from a man
who "thought" he saw him in Orillia on Friday night but he wasn't real sure
as it was getting dark and he wasn't too close.

I stayed in the area all day Saturday but no new calls or sightings. I have
plastered the areas with signs and talked to so many people.

I do feel it could have been him in Orillia as there is something that always takes him back there....probably food....so now it would be anyones guessw which direction he is in now..... it will be a wait and see for another call to
come in.

Although discouraging, at least he is still being sighted

Hi Shirley .... Just wondering if you have contacted any of the small newspapers in the area. Perhaps they would insert a story and picture as a public interest article what with you returning to the area to search for such a long time.

I am sure you know you are in all our thoughts, and we are keeping fingers and paws crossed for Sable's safe return. Take care.

Shirley ..... I am sure you most likely know this, but there are 2 newspapers that cover the Orillia area -The Packet and Times and Orillia Today. Probably you know this, but I was just checking online.

I honestly don't think he would wander away to another area,I think he has established a territory where he stays and probably gets fed at times.
Why would he go someplace else,he is still a domestic animal and probably likes to stay where he feels familiar.
OMG,the day he is finally caught will be a day to celebrate here in Cyberspace!!

Not holding a lot of hope

We just had a call and a lady thought Sable has been killed on Hwy 12
just between the Casino Parking lot and Brechin which is the area we have
been searching for the past week and 1/2.

I am hoping it is not him but I am fearing the worst. My husband is on his
way from Aurora so he was going to check it out.

Shirley...hope it's not him. When I started putting up posters for Billie someone called to tell me that they were sure she was the dog they saw lying on the road but they were wrong. Anything is possible and knowing Sable's ability to survive I wouldn't be surprised that it wasn't him.

I'm just sick to my stomach reading this Shirley. Have you checked with the town's roads department, they are responsible for picking animals up that are on roadways. Did you get an exact location from the woman that called you? I just can't believe that fate would do this to you after so long. Let's all keep hoping that it just isn't true.

Yes, the roads dept. have not picked up anything....there was a house right
in front of where the animal was hit but more than 1/2 way to Brechin which
is a little further than he has been seen...by about 10 miles....we figure it
must have been the house out front that owned the dog....Bob said there
was an awful storm and no one other than an owner would have been out in
it.

Again it will be a wait and see!

Shirley! I am praying for you and your family that this is really not Sable....I am sure you probably have already done this but could you arrange for a whole bunch of people to come out to an area to search on a weekend...with posters in hand..speaking to people or knocking on some doors??? maybe it will jog someones memory / sighting... I realize to do this you would need to confirm another good sighting of Sable...but honestly I would come from Hamilton to help search with you...I am not close but if it was arranged for a weekend or something I would try to be there for you. My heart is broken for Sable, Jace,Spencer and all the others missing out there..I am so sad that these things happen....

How did Sable get lost ? I cant recall ? You are an angel for still caring....Stay strong...

Cindy

Thank you for all the kindness. We have not heard anything on Sable since
Sunday afternoon but we do know he has been going back into Orillia and
probably late at night....a man who has been helping me from Coldwater did
some talking to folks this morning and confirmed that call last Friday night
that others too have seen him in Orillia in this industrial area behind some
restaurants.

I am thinking if he is still alive, he might also have figured out the Provincial Park has lots of food from campers.

We couldn't find him last night but then the roads say they haven't picked up either so it will be a wait and see....the paper comes out again tonight so
hopefully someone will have seen him.

OMG, Shirley, my heart stopped when I saw your posting of a hit dog. I pray it was not Sable.

I am sure he has not forgotten your family's scent. Can you get some articles of clothing to those who are helping you look so they can use them to try to entice him to come closer so they can capture him?

I think of you everyday and this is the first thread I check when I log-on.

Good luck.

Unhappy

I feel like I am on a roller-coaster. Had a call from a young person at
Casino Rama that says there has been a dog coming there off and on
over the past week and 1/2. She says he looks like the picture but appears to have more beige fur in clumps. She says he comes to an area where the employees go for smoke break. Some of the employees have been giving him scaps. She said she got close enough the other day to pat his head when he took a piece of sandwich from her. She said he is very frightened but does come for food. She says she is not 100% but thinks it is him. She has a camera cell phone and will take his picture the next time she sees him. she called already Sun. around 4:30 to say she was off early today and he usually doesn't come until around 6 or 7 but will watch for him tomorrow.

My son is up there now and is going to wait around for a bit...he says he can see where there is a path from the bush to where the employee picnic tables are.

After all the other wrong dogs I have been chasing, I am not too hopeful but will do everything we need to chase down this lead.

It is just a wait and see again.

My son Mark waited until after 9 on Sunday night but he said it was really busy at the Casino and NO DOG. He also followed the trail from the bush and
it leads back across the road to an old rail trail that leads directly to the bridge back into Orillia.

I also had a call around 1:30 this morning from a lady who thought she saw Sable run across in front of the Casino shuttle back to the parking lot on
Highway 12 south. That road also would lead him back to the Casino across the fields.

Thanks for all your prayers and encouragement. It has been very emotional for me especially when it turns out to be another dog or the lead goes cold or the dog has been hit. It would be so easy to just give up and get on with life but I can't do that to Sable if he is still out there.
