Ginger the pitbull--victimized twice
http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/loc...TorontoNewHome
This is an old story, but I didn't hear about it until today. This is absolutely ridiculous. The dog is muzzled and leashed, as she is supposed to be, is attacked by another dog who ripped off her muzzle, so she defends herself, and now she's destroyed. If this doesn't show what's wrong with the law, I don't know what does.

I read that she was not destroyed.
Regardless, I have been pulling these dogs out of that darn province and finding shelter either here or in other provinces. This whole ban is a ridiculous attempt to control the pittie/amstaff population but more so the citizens of that province. Human RIGHTS are also being voilated and I cannot tell you how many people have their wonderful companions literally ripped away from them. I dealt with an animal control in Ontario in regards to a X pittie that did absolutely NOTHING but greet them with wagging tail and enthusiasically lick them on the face and she was ordered destroyed only due to 'undetermined' breed. THERE WAS NO INCIDENT - only some hag that complained that a pitbull lived amongst them. I was asked to prove that she was over 3 years of age in which I produced paperwork indicating that she was 9! After I felt relieved they then asked me to prove that she was in the province for 9 years! What crap really. If they are set on destroying a dog they will do it regardless of anyone's testimony or documentation provided. I am happy to announce that I took the dog to this province and she was adopted to a wonderful family. I see her frequently running in the dog park with her master and other dogs JOYFULLY without any incident. Though the last family is pleased she was spared - they are saddened that they could not keep her and love her forever. Shame on this province and others that have such ignorance. SHAME! Sorry, I typed too fast because I'm on (my now over) lunch.
That should have said, "now she's TO BE destroyed". Looks like there's another court case in the winter as the province appealed.

Can we get this dog out of province or does she have to stay there? I do not know all the legalities when a dog is being 'persecuted'.

Sooooo, what happened to the aggressor dog, was it ordered to be destroyed since it did the first bite?
Ginger, you look like a sweetheart, I hope you win

Absolutely, BenMax, that ride was really very pivotal in my change of attitude towards these dogs. Tigger is one gal I will never forget. DH just cleaned her slobber off his truck window just this last weekend. Kinda sad for me, because when I looked at it, it made me smile .

That is unbelievable and the worst case of double standard I've ever heard. Reminds me of something I saw on YouTube. A pit was attacked by two Huskies who broke into the yard. No news coverage because the dog attacked was the pit.
I hope something can be done to help this girl.

Fred, over at One Bark at a Time (one of my favourite blogs to read), did a really good job of investigating and reporting on Ginger's story:
http://onebarkatatime.blogspot.com/2...-bull-law.html http://onebarkatatime.blogspot.com/2...-of-truth.html http://onebarkatatime.blogspot.com/2...said-what.html I don't know if I agree with his final conclusion, but I particularly like when he writes that regardless of which dog started the fight, it's unfair that Ginger (or any Bully-type dog) would not be given the same allowances as Buddy. |
