My treeing coon hound

Rain doesn't seem to think she is versatile enough as a sled dog and a goose control dog...now she also wants to be a treeing coon hound...as long as I'm the coon

working...looking for geese The way the perspective of the picture turned out makes it look like I'm straight up in the tree or something but in fact the tree is almost horiztonal, reaching out over the river and I just walked out along the trunk. Rain, being the velcroed-to-my-hip dog that she is, thought she should join me.

When we're working the geese my daughter and I start up at the beginning of the public "RiverWalk" pathway and each take a dog so we can cover both sides of the river. At the upstream end where we start there is a pedestrian bridge across the river and the Riverwalk pathway along both sides for about a half mile down to the main bridge. We move the geese down there and then continue for about another half mile beyond that so they're well away from the public areas. The spot where these pictures were taken is where we stop. Beyond that there are houses along the river's edge and we don't go onto private land when working for the township. There is also a bend in the river right in front of the first house so the geese get out of our sight and then we can't tell if they're continuing to swim downstream or just floating in the river waiting for us to leave so they can turn around and swim back up. If I go out into the tree I can see part way around the bend and watch what the geese are doing so I know whether it's ok for us to leave or if we should just wait a bit to be able to turn them back again if they start coming up.

The angle of the picture makes it look like she climbed right up the tree. I was going to ask you how you ever taught her that. I got a kick out of the part where you said the geese maybe were waiting for you to go so they could go swim right back to where they came from. They really are smarter than they look, I get a charge out of the males, they stand guard like statues, letting the females and babies do their thing while they are the look out.

I wondered the same thing!

You have to start stringing people along, Gail, telling them tales about Rain's tree-climbing prowess and how she chases you through the branches in a game of Tarzan Tag!

And if I can teach her to do the Tarzan yodel we might really scare the geese away.
