Katie - cries for no reason
Just wondering if anyone has a cat that will go into another room, all by herself, and just sit and cry/meow. Katie does that quite a bit. She sometimes does it just after sitting with one of us, or looking out the window, etc. Then she goes into the kitchen by herself and cries. When we go check on her, she seems fine. We can pet her, pick her up, bring her back (sometimes) but she will go back in there again and cry.
I have seen the other quads go check on her when she does this, and they try to get her to play (or just look at her like she is nuts) and often she will play. Other times she just sits or lies there, and cries. Fortunately, this doesn't happen every day, but I am just wondering why she does it. I don't think she is hurting or anything, because when she is in the same room with us she doesn't ever cry like that. Diane

The sound of their own voice
My middle cat used to do this to get attention: she would sit in the front hallway (I think it was because of the excellent accustics) and she would echo like a professional opera singer. I think she was 4 when she went through this phase. Ignore her or stick your head in the doorway and call her name, it doesn't really make a difference.

Oh, I just remembered - my youngest did that too. We would joke around that she was crying cause she was looooost (and we laughed harder cause she was "lost" in the next bedroom sitting in a corner).

My cat does this usually in the hall by the door,in the kitchen and sometimes my bedroom. She'll do this when she wants something and is not getting her way. She stops when she has had enough.

ok, glad to hear we aren't alone! I think she likes to hear her voice in the kitchen - hard floors!

Timmy does that. Mind you he normally has an ear plug in his mouth when he's doing it. We say he's talking to the plug.
Jupiter (the other black cat I haven't caught yet) wanders the catuary and yowls! He sounds like he has a Siamese yowl. Love it when they "talk". |

My girl does this at least once or twice a day. Sometimes she's wondering where I am if I'm downstairs and she's upstairs, and when I call her name she runs down the stairs meowing all the way to me. Other times she does it in another room when she has a toy mouse & wants me to throw it for her. Sometimes she just wants to hear her own voice.

I was thinking it was a old cat that has started to lose it's memory and got lost in the house and mixed up. But I guess it's just talking.
Willie does this, he wants the other cats and the dog to come find him to play.

Duffy does that to call me to her either for food/brushing/etc especially super early in the morning - like 4 am
My Mischief was part Siamese & would yeowl if a door was closed - didn't matter if she wanted to go through the door or not - just that it was closed and needed to be open

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I should be very grateful that only Katie does this....can you imagine a chorus of all the quads! LOL

my guy does this when he wants to be held... he will go upstairs and meow/yowl so loudly.... first time he ever did this i came to the room and picked him up and gave him cuddles and kisses (well i guess it was my mistake as i 'trained' him that this is the reward but it was such a gutteral meowl....). Well he still does this, 4 years later, whenever he wants to be picekd up. if i dont reespond he stops after a few yowls, but if i come to the room and cuddle him he stops right away and doesnt yowl anymore after that for the day....
he has me trained so that i come running at his command.... but how can you say no to that orange face....
