I Have A Secret

Back in October, my sweet old girl Echo passed away. She was 15 years old and I am still heartbroken over the loss of her. I've been really missing not just my dear old friend, but just having a dog in the house. It feels so empty not having the clickety clack of paws in the kitchen, no one to greet me at the door when I come home, well, you know how it is. So I've been spending a lot of time down at our local shelter, just hanging out with the dogs, petting the cats and bunnies and the guinea pigs they have there. I was talking to the lady who runs the place and mentioned that I was ready to adopt and is there a wait list for if any puppies come in. Well, it turns out that a little dog that she is boarding at her house just gave birth to a litter on Christmas day, so she is going to send me pictures and I can choose one! It's a secret because I want to surprise my family and they won't be ready till February anyway. But I just wanted to tell someone

I'm excited too. Still waiting for pics, but I'll share as soon as I get them The mother is a pug mix, father is unknown. I think this is meant to be because my husband has always wanted a pug. It's hard not saying anything!

That's great. You can visit and help influence the wee things too, with some early training. Boy, if you continue to visit it will be even harder to keep quiet.

I'm still keeping the secret- except I told my husband because it felt wrong to keep it secret from him. I'm still waiting on pictures but later in the week I might ask if I can come and see the puppies and take a picture myself

We still don't have a name for her yet I am thinking maybe Smudge, or Lucy?? But I'm going to give the kids a chance to make suggestions when we get her home. Her mother is half pug half something else, and father is unknown. Name suggestions welcome

Smudge is a cute name! Can they estimate how big she might get to be?

Not really, since they have no idea what breed(s) the father might have been. But she's a pug mix so I imagine small/med.

Oh! SO CUTE. Oh my, so cute. She'll never learn to walk properly, she'll be up in someone's arms being cuddled the whole time. Kidding. SO CUTE.

I think you may be right Longblades...She is sweet and almost always in someones arms! Lily loves me again, she's been snuggly, and hasn't eaten the baby so...in other news, I think another heat is coming already!

Hello Silverwind:

What a beautiful little puppy. Looks like you came up with a real gem. I'm glad the young people had the honour of naming her Betsy.

Also glad to hear that Lily has had a change of heart and you're in her good books again.

A little surprised that you think she may be coming into heat again so soon.

Yes it was definitely heat. She;s still in it. At the vet today, they told me that some cats can go as little as 24 hrs between heats! She is set to be spayed on Friday.
