Oh clm, they are just beautiful,I am sooo jealous, nice clear pics of beautiful subjects.
I had a huge Hawk hear today and he took one of my Pigeons, there are feathers all under the bird-feeders:sad: But he was absolutely gorgeous, would have loved to be able to get a pic.

It's a Panasonic FZ18 digital. I'm having a lot of fun with it. Nothing like a new toy.

Beautiful pictures, clm. I take it you're liking the new camera?

I have all those birds, plus a few more. Wish I could get a shot of the junkos and the house finches, they are so pretty but disappear as soon as I approach  and I don't want to hurt them!! The woodpeckers I got though not the chickadees, they were too fast too

We had considered whether or not to get an SLR camera, but I don't like toting lenses around. I have a Nikon FG film camera and I just keep the long lens on it instead of bringing lenses around with me, so I figured not much point in going that route again. Cindy |

Thank's clm,so SLR is not something I really need..
All I want to do,like you,is to be able to get good close-ups from the house to the birdfeeders, approx 60 feet, not much to ask right When that beautiful Hawk comes every day,I would love to be able to get a pic. He looks like a Coopers Hawk but is bigger..

We've got a big hawk like the one you've descriped. I thought it might be a goshawk or harrier actually. He's big enough that the squirrels take off when he's around. We have a couple of redtails too and the kestrels. Had 2 redtails fighting over territory at home yesterday, so neither one of them got to eat. Hubby saw a big owl fly over last night while he was sitting out with the pups. My parents have a big gray owl at their place too. I hope I get to see it soon. Hubby saw a huge woodpecker yesterday too, of course I missed it, but he said it was at least twice the size of the downy's we usually see. |

Well, my shot of the doves was from about 40feet away, using the camera at medium quality (6mp instead of the 8.1 max) and at enhanced 18 X optical, which for that camera, when you knock it down to 6 mega pixels instead of 8.1, you can get the optical zoom up to 23 X . if you knock it down to 3.8 megapixels, you can go up to 28X optical zoom.
I would have a hard time with a 3X zoom as well. Fine for taking indoor pics when you don't need to zoom in too close though. Cindy |

Looks like those doves have found a great place to nap in between meals eh. I have loads of them too. They line up with all the other birds on the wires running up airport road and along my fences and in the dead tree in the neighbours yard. Looks like a scene from the birds when I first get home before I fill up the feeders for their dinner.
