Oh WOW!!! Look at all the hair he now has,he is really looking like a Berner now and what an absolutely loveable, sucky face
Although he is not completely cured yet,he has to be our number ONE comeback-kid,amazing!!
Will he have to be on meds for the rest of his life???
I know he is a foster and eventually will find his own home, but I would imagine it would be very difficult to part with this fighter of a dog,his spirit to survive together with his guardian angel(BMDluver)who never gave up,is a miracle in itself.
Thank's for the pics

Thanks Chico. Sam is on atopica combined with vanectyl P right now. This is solely for completing the facial healing. He has had no reoccurence of the mange, has a healthy shiny coat now and no more hair loss. Once his face has healed, that should be the end of the meds for his lifetime. His face is the longest to heal due to moisture and itchiness which both cause him to want to rub it on things. It's a waiting game on the face but not a forever thing... his meds are covered presently and will be until he is deemed fully healed. Therefore, the only thing a family has to consider is normal upkeep.

It's sooo good to hear about Sam doing well! Hard to believe it's the same dog. I hope he gets his forever home soon.
(C'mon, lottery, pay off already-I need a big farm! )

I hope potential adopters aren't turned off by the meds... They're temporary!!! (repeating it to be sure they see it)

Adopt him!

Yes and Vanectyl isn't too expensive (I know , Bailey is on it from April to November) I really don't get how Sam hasn't been adopted yet

How could you not fall for that handsome fellow? I think he has always looked like a sweetie even in his worst state. But now he is so darn cute. Prin you really need the pics where he just pulls at peoples heart strings. I am with Stryker if I win a lottery I will become that crazy dog lady who takes in every dog

I don't want to jinx anything but we've had two possibilities for Sam crop up. So everyone keep positive thoughts that one will be his forever home! The atopica is working really well now and he has little furs growing on his nose area now. His coat is coming in curlier and fuller as well. He'll get there yet!

He's getting well thank's to you and is ready for a good life with a new family
We'll miss him though,if he goes:sad:

That is wonderful news. Fingers crossed that one of the options works for Sam!

BMDLuver - we are seriously considering the purchase of a BMD, hopefully this fall. I am a little lost on the right approach to finding a reputable breeder - any hints?

Contact me via pm and I'll be happy to recommend a breeder to you. We have 3 excellent ones in the surrounding area who all have their dogs shown, tested and well socialised. One breeder in particuliar I have always dreamed of owning a dog from. I just can't bring myself to purchase one when I know the funds could help another Sam.

I don't think I have PM privelages yet (I just joined yesterday) but I would like to talk to you. Can you PM me and I reply to that?

We did consider adopting but the one rescue out here (BC) that I heard of posted that they have a waiting list of approved adopters so we didn't pursue it.

If everyone could think positive thoughts for Sam it would be greatly appreciated. Inverness came to visit him on Saturday and he was his usual silly self. The middle of the night, Sam went odd on us. He collapsed in the back yard and could not move. His breathing was fine, no temperature, etc.. My husband tried to assist him up but he cried out and nipped at him, so the vet said not to move him in case of further damage, etc.. On Sunday morning I went to our vets and got some meds for Sam to help with his stiffness and immobility. Sam is now walking but his back is rounded, he shakes his head like he's trying to get water out of his ears and he points his front legs when trying to start off walking. His breathing is rapid if he tries to go up and down the stairs. Sam is going in for xrays and bloodwork tomorrow afternoon. We do not have any idea what we are now dealing with. We pray that it's not something serious but we can't be sure. I'm really needing to know that Sam still has another fight left in him. I'll keep everyone posted as I learn things.
