Walthams cat food ingredients?
I seem to be starting a lot of threads lately!
I have a friend who's vet has recommended Walthams for her cat. Not sure what formula but the cat is a little overweight and is having some "poo stuck on bum" and scooting issues. I am trying to find an ingredient list for it but am having some problems because the website doesn't seem to have much information. Apparently you buy it at the vet so that makes me think it's not so great. |

Thanks - that's the site I was at but didn't realize I could click on all those different kinds.
Not too sure which one the vet would sell - maybe Royal Canine? Maybe I'll have to get more specifics - she just said Walthams from the vet. |

I was confused too about this site. When I googled Walthams, Royal Canin website did come up.
Here is a place to order online that shows the link between the two companies: http://www.rxpetfood.com/

Royal Canin you can buy in a pet food store, so I doubt that that would be it. Some years ago our Vet put Herbie on Walthams for his weight which I purchased from them.

They do have vet diets too:

Thanks guys - it doesn't look like great stuff.
I recently got her to try Orijen (she got a small sample bag and the cat loved it) but now the vet has suggested this! |

I think she does feed canned along with the dry.
I believe she is using Friskies but that might not be the best quality. Do you have any suggestions for brand names? I have two dogs so I haven't really done my research on the canned cat foods but I imagine brands like Wellness or Innova are good? |

Wellness cat cans are good, particularly the six varieties of grain free canned. Instinct cans are great, Nature's Variety also makes several other cheaper grain-inclusive but low-glycemic varieties like their Prarie line and their Homestyle Line. Evangers is also nice, as is Go! Grain Free, Natural Balance, Evo (which comes in several varieties now) and California Natural.
You're on the right track with the Orijen, but if she's still having poopy bum issues, you may want to try switching to the Acana Grain Free - same basic recipe as the Orijen, but a bit less meat and instead of just potato as a binder they use potato peas and pumpkin - the pumpkin seems to make the biggest difference, as anyone who's used the canned variety will attest to. As for the Walthams, there is a Waltham's Veterinary Line, as well as a Royal Canin Veterinary Line. Neither one is what I would consider edible. Here's the link to the weight loss variety: http://www.vetdata.com/walthamusa/Le...rieControl.htm Here are the ingredients: Poultry by-product meal, rice, corn gluten meal, digest of poultry by-products, cellulose powder, Minerals (calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, potassium chloride, choline chloride, sodium chloride, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, potassium iodide, manganese sulfate, copper sulfate), dried brewers yeast, DL-methionine, taurine, vegetable oil, guar gum, Vitamins (dl-alpha-tocopherol acetate [source of vitamin E], vitamin A, niacin [vitamin B3], riboflavin [vitamin B2], thiamine [vitamin B1], pantothenic acid, pyridoxine hydrochloride [vitamin B6], vitamin D3, folic acid), BHA/BHT (a preservative), propyl gallate (a preservative), citric acid (a preservative). The good news is that they are finally following their own research and using high protein, low fat, low carb formulas for weight loss. The BAD news is that they insist on using inferior ingredients like corn gluten meal, digest of poultry by-products, and toxic preservatives like BHA/BHT and propyl gallate. YUCK. |

Thank you very much! I imagine that is the one the vet is suggesting. I will give her this information and suggest those canned foods as well!
