Possible asthmatic cat

Last week i had my chronic vomit cat this week i've got a possible asthmatic in the family.

My cats both had their teeth cleaned Friday, lots of stress for both of them being sedated and cleaned. They sort of hate each other for a few days after any vet visit (she comes out to the house). So now, a few days later they're almost back to being friends but not quite. My bigger cat Spencer has been hacking away with what i thought was a hairball, but it's been happening on and off for a few days.

Anyway, i took a video of him and contacted my vet again, she said it looks and sounds like asthma and i have to check on him when i get home from work and get back in touch with her. If he's not improved by tomorrow she's going to put him on low dose prednisone, she'll most likely come out and examine him which will cause more stress in the house and i'm not sure that's a good thing. She gave him a thorough exam on Friday while he was sedated and said his heart sounded great.

If it's not one thing it's another, yikes, and this is scarier than vomiting.

Update: the vet is giving me prednisone pills to give him to help with his coughing. Hopefully we can get this under control and manageable. I hate seeing him cough and look so tired, poor guy.

I hope the pred does the trick! How is his appetite?

In my experience, Pred can definitely work in cases like this but you should know that it has many possible side effects (the most common of which is increased drinking and urination.) The lowest dose is definitely the best dose.
Good luck

It's great, he's been wolfing his food down. I mixed doth his doses of medication in his food today with no issues.

Thanks! He's on a super low dose, mostly just to get his lungs opened up again and suppress his cough and let him rest. If he hasn't improved in 3 days the vet is going to look again and maybe adjust the dose.

He has access to lots of water so he can drink and pee all he wants.

Update

Good news! The prednisone has done the trick and the asthma attacks have stopped. Spencer's breathing is back to normal and he's active and happy again. He'll be weaned off the prednisone over the next few days and then i'll keep a close eye on him to see if his symptoms start up again.
