thick mucousy urine?
Hello all,
I just let me dog in from outside, and sometimes when I do, I pat her dry since she has had a couple UTIs in the past, the vet suggested that. This time I noticed something quite strange. Usually when I pat her dry, the papertowel has a small wet spot, nothing major. This time I patted her dry and the paper towel had a mucousy sticky substance. I'm not sure what that could be. I will call my vet in the mornig, but I am wondering if anyone has any idea or has seen this before. She seems overall healthy other than that.... |

It could be vaginitis. Is she licking the area? Is she spayed?

She does lick the area more lately and she is spayed.
To be honest, I hope that would be it instead of some of the stuff I have read it to be a symptom of (cushings or diabetes). Not gonna lie, its got me a bit worried now.... |

I just checked your profile and she has a tucked up vulva. I think it is likely the urine collecting in the skin folds and causing a bacterial infection. She will need to see the vet and put on antibiotics. Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm guessing vaginal infection too...we saw the same mucousy thing with Jaida who just finished treatment for a Staph infection.

Well it turns out it was an infection. He put her on an antibiotic for 10 days.
He also mentioned that she had a very small amount of struvite crytals in her urine. He had mentioned a med diet possibly. I am not a big fan of the quality of those foods. I am going to look into other options. Does anyone know of any type of "preventitives" for these types of things (UTI's, vaginitis, struvites). She seems so healthy overall, but it seems I just can't get her urinary tract etc on track...gets frustrating. |

My pup had recurrent infections when he was young, and struvites as well. The struvite crystals went away on their own (depending on how bad they are they can do that - but if there are too many they may not, apparently). We started him on coconut oil based on some recommendations here, and that seems to have solved the urinary infections and the ear infections he was constantly getting, too. If you do a search on coconut oil on this forum you'll find lots of info on it.
