Most vets will tell you what tests they run to confirm a diagnosis and share the results with clients. Did your vet not do this on Monday? If need be, I'd be more than willing to contact a friend that works there to help get you the results. You should bring them along with her if you're going to another vet for a second opinion.

Thanks LP I emailed Byron's trainer, who is a vet tech, and she is having the information faxed to both myself and our regular vet. I should be getting it soon

TT, sorry to hear about majik. Hopefully your reg vet can help you with a plan to keep her comfortable until it's time to let her go.

TT, I just read your thread and what a roller coaster you've been on!!!!
I don't know what to tell you, but I know you will make the right decision once you get all the information.
But as far as peeing goes, you can always put diapers on. I put one of my cats in premi-diapers. It really worked for him.
I'm sorry you are going thru this.

How is Majik doing this evening TT ? Did you originally get a referral or did you just call to make the appointment? Did you go to get the diagnosis on Monday? Did the trainer/vet tech fax you the results yet ?

Majik is doing very well She's actually playful tonight With the vet, I had Byron neutered there earlier this year, and they offered to run any blood work on my oldest cat for practice. I went there on Monday to talk to the vet. My trainer faxed the results to my regular vet, and of course I forgot my fax is out of toner, but I called our vet and they confirmed that they have all the papers, results, etc. So tomorrow at 8AM we're taking Maji in

Hmm, I have a bit of a question. I've been reading about lung cancer in cats, and it says that they usually have a cough? Majik hasn't ever had a cough. Occasionally she will have a hairball, but that is about once or twice a year. Otherwise no cough. Could that mean the diagnosis is wrong?

TT, everything seems wrong about your experiences so I certainly wouldn't be trusting a diagnosis at this point . Could the trainer/vet tech not even tell you what tests were run to confirm the diagnosis if she has the results in hand? They don't have a vet clinic open to the public so that struck me as odd as well. I spoke with my friend earlier to see if she could give me some ideas to help you and Majik and she told me that vets don't do consultations from the campus and that there haven't been any vets on-site for the past couple of weeks...rotating vets from outside clinics come in to teach several of the clinical classes but that doesn't begin until next week. Is it possible you're not getting the right information? Are you sure you saw a real vet on Monday? She was pretty bewildered with the info I provided her.

Please let us know what the real vet says tomorrow. It would be a shame if Majik has an illness that could be treated but is suffering because of this confusion.

I decided to call our vet again, and ask who's charts/information was faxed to them. It's Byron's. I called my friend/trainer and she confirmed, she faxed Byron's information to our vet.

I don't know WTF is going on

I will get answers tomorrow I'm pretty pissed right now. Someone's yanking my chain

Hell if I know I know she was one of the techs that worked with Byron during his surgery. I will call her tomorrow and find out what the hell is going on. I don't understand this at all

Oy!! I am officially confused and confuzzled. Doesn't take much but....... I don't see how a cat that has been incontinent for 12 years now has a diagnosis of lung cancer without any of the usual testing.
I agree someone is yanking chains.

I am wondering if someone decided to play an elaborate hoax on us...Wouldn't put it past some people I don't know what is going on, but I am officially done with the person who offered all this information. Thankfully it's not my trainer, she's very upfront and honest with everyone. Still, I will find out what is going on tomorrow. I feel like such a dork. On Monday we just chatted in front of the Animal Health unit, since it was "so nice" outside. Just paint a giant LOSER sign on my head

My question would be why would a reputable university or anyone closely associated with it play that big of a hoax on anyone? Especially with the way everyone wants to sue everyone else these days.

I was wondering the same thing. If they did happen to mix two cats up, they really owe you an apology for all the mental anguish.
What a strange situation.

Well our appointment well very well this morning. Our regular vet took some x-rays, listened to her breathing and found nothing. Her lungs are clear and her breathing is normal. She's acting fine today. I did ask him about the urination and defecation issues, so we considering trying amitriptyline (thanks to AG for mentioning this to me). The vet is doing some blood panels (I think that's what they call it?), to check for anything out of the ordinary. I'm not exactly sure what they are looking for, but I just told him to check for whatever he thinks is needed.

No one knows what is going on with the other place. I wondered myself if they had mistaken my girl for another. I talked to my trainer about it and she is confused as well. So, for now I am taking it as no harm done. I don't know how long the blood work takes to be done, but I am hoping soon. For now, just knowing that Majik does not appear to have Cancer is such a blessing, and I am not worrying so much about anything else

So, I got a bit more info regarding what is going on. The person whom I thought was the vet was actually a vet tech, who met me up at the college - she met me there as she thought I was someone else just driving through the city. Majik apparently has a friend named Magic, who is an old tabby, very similar to my Majik. The vet tech called me this afternoon, apologizing to me regarding everything. My kitty is fine, no health issues that we know of (my reg vet is doing blood work to see if there is any reason for her urination issues). So, no hoax, but major mix ups on a few people's parts, including myself. From now on I will only be going to my regular vet. I do plan on having Byron's tooth surgery at the college, since they did his neuter.

Thank you everyone who has offered support and suggestions! I am pleased to finally say this is resolved and I don't think Majik has any issues. We will try the amitriptyline once we talk to the vet again, and I am hoping it will help

Though I must say, when chaos knocks on your door, be sure to check the peep hole first!

You know, it's not the first time When she was a kitten, and I had her spayed, there was another brown tabby around her age named Magic, getting spayed Good thing my girl is a Cymric, otherwise we may have ended up with the wrong kitty!

A complete nightmare. I feel good knowing that Maji is ok though, she's my baby and I would hate to have done something unnecessary. She still has her bad days, when I have to help her eat (I think it's either her eye sight going, or her eagerness to chow down, she doesn't seem to see the food unless it's right under her nose). I am going to try preemie diapers to see if that helps at all, as well as medication if our vet thinks it will help. We will see how things go with all of that
