Substitute for liver

Hello
Does anyone know if you can substitute liver with maybe ground beef or bison in a recipe that calls for liver? Marian

Why substitute? Beef liver is cheap at the butchers, probably cheaper than gound beef.

Some people can't stand the smell of cooking liver.

Yes you can substitute it, try using chicken instead of beef liver it doesn't smell as bad and still very cheap

Sorry I should have told you my dog can't tolerate beef liver and he has an allergy to chicken. I thought about Ostrich liver but I am not sure if it is as rich as the beef liver.

Is the ostrich liver as full of moisture as the beef liver. If not you may need to add water to the mixture otherwise it may turn out too dry. What about pork liver. It is easy to get and just as cheap.

Boo is intolerant to chicken and we found out because every time he eats chicken he throws up violently for about a week...

luvmypaps, he is allergic to grain? What does that mean? No millet, no flax, no oatmeal? Just beef and veggies? I suppose fish is ok too, right?

Actually he is fine with millet, we use beans, lentils, etc. and I bake biscuits for him using chick pea flour. It takes some guess work but it is doable.
I do what I have to because I love him, he is my besy bud.

That's like our Belgian, she's allergic to all of those plus beef pork and dairy. She loses all the fur on her paws and face when she eats any of them. (Not a pretty sight  )

We did try elk, and she was good on that, never ostrich though. We chose to give her venison instead because it's more readily available to us than elk. She also did ok on duck, but it was a little rich for her at times. She was also a vegetarian dog for a while..... man she's tried everything
