I'll do another 2 coats of stain tomorrow then start with with the Helmsman finish on Tuesday. Probably about 5 or 6 coats of Helmsman while keeping the dining room table barricaded to the project.
Poor pups are daized and confused! Next couple of weeks, I'll attempt to put the plexi-glass on top of the finish--just in time to switch out the old storm windows with screens.

Well...guess it's too late to get in here and advocate for an hand-rubbed oil finish.
Next time! |

How well will that protect against dog claws, MMM? We've used hand-rubbed oil finish on wood pieces, but not on anything that was subject to high traffic or rough use. Makes for a beautiful finish!

I'm a fond believer of danish oil and use it quite often on other pieces of furniture however; both floor and sills are way beyond good ole elbow grease!

I'm not sure if he applied a sealer since no rain gets in those windows, but he got those 4" square tiles so the fit was perfect and there were no fumes to deal with.

That sounds interesting Bina.
I think I might try that technique in my kitchen window sill. No doggies get up on the kitchen sill but it would pretty it up! Finished 4th coat of stain earlier...onto 5th at 10:00 p.m.

The windows are original to the house. Storms in the winter replaced with screens in the summer. Really no condensation builds up on them so I think the seals appear to be o.k. What I really need to do is to either keep the dogs nails short or ban them from peeping out that window!
