Cat's dry heaving

Hello, I have a 3 year old male Tabby named Leo. Recently he has started to dry heave, almost like cough for no apparent reason. He is indoors only, and the only pet I own. He seems to be doing it mostly after eating his Fancy Feast wet food that he gets twice a day. After his 3 minute cough/heaving he is back to his normal secluded self.
So I guess what I'm wondering is, do you think he's eating too fast? Also my roommate has decided to smoke his cigarettes inside the apartment. Is that maybe the cause of all this?
Thanks.
Holly.

It's possible, but even if it isn't, is there any way to convince your roommate not to smoke inside? Nevermind the health risks to you, but your cat is particularly vulnerable.

Is the dry heaving anything like what the cat with asthma in this video is doing? http://www.fritzthebrave.com/asthma/symptoms.html
