RIP Sweet Petey

Our darling boy Petey passed away Jan 16 2011 it has taken me this long to post it. It was a sunday and he bloated I took him to the emerg vet they did not beleive me it was bloat (I have been through bloat before I know the signs) crutial time was wasted with me arguing with the vet he did not believe me....... so frustrating, by the time I convinced them to do an exray an hour had passed and the damage was done and Petey did not make it.

My heart breaks every day I feel I failed him he was only 7 years old this pic was taken just the night before with his sisters Currie and Brandy.

I miss you Petey Brain (his nic name) please forgive me for not trying harder.

Toonces,I am so very sorry you've lost Petey,a beautiful, beautiful boy and under such frustrating, sad circumstances.
I think no matter what, when a loved animal dies,we feel guilt and it's difficult not too,but Petey does not want you to suffer guilt,he knows you did the best you could.

sweet Petey

Maybe now it's not the time to ask,but is Toonces still with you

Thankyou Chico I struggle with this everyday the guilt I feel is beyond anything I have ever felt. If they would have only listened to me and not wasted so much time he would still be here with us.

I have his ashes in the kitchen with me where I spend the most time (they lost his lead and collar tho just another thing that upsets me) his sisters ae so depressed even the cats look for him espically my old man Toonces they always slept together

I'm so sorry to hear about Petey, Toonces! You did all you could--and Petey knows it, so no more second-guessing yourself! Petey would tell you himself that there is no forgiveness needed.

I wish you heart's ease, Toonces, and many happy memories of your boy.

Petey

I feel your pain Toonces and I offer you my deepest condolences

Don't want to threadjack this memorial but vet made the error not you and I personally would not go back. You did not fail your Petey, you tried your best and you should be proud of your dedication.

sweet beautiful Petey

Sincerely,
Marko

Sorry for your loss, its not your fault in any way the vet should have listened to you, that is one thing I loved about my last vet that has now retired. A year later and I still can't find a vet I like. I had a dog bloat too and once you see it you will never forget it. I was lucky my dog survived but the emergency vet asked why I thought he was bloated I told him I had seen it before in cattle, and I knew it was life threatening. Don't beat yourself up about it you did what you could do for your baby

Thankyou everyone so much for your kind words I struggle with this every day.

My own vet is amazing and I wish she would have been on call when this happened I saw it before in a foster I had they wasted no time he was in surgery with in minutes and he lived.

I know Petey would have survived also but to much time wasted and so much damage done. He tried to follow me out when I left and my last memory of him is me holding his face in my hands kissing his nose and whispering in his ear to be brave and strong and that we loved him more than anything while they prepped him fo surery.

He was a big silly baby so loving and full of beans we called him Petey Brain because he was to darn smart for his own good, my only comfort is that after fostering him for some time we adopted him and gave him 3 wonderfull years (he had several homes before we got him) We made it through severe seperation anxiety and he learned with us that hands were not bad things but they gave loving pets and voices were not made for yelling but told him what a sweet special good boy he was.

my darling I know my mum and dad are taking very good care of you

Toonces I am so sorry. I knew I had not seen you here for a while. I have been through the bloat thing and if you have you know it when you see it not something you forget. I am sorry the vet was an a$$ that is not your fault. You did everything you could for Petey and believe me he is watching over you and the rest of his family fur and skin. Rest in peace sweet boy he knows you did not fail him you loved him.

Thankyou mastifflover I was MIA for awhile as we were building a house and living in a trailer with limited internet access but I am back now and its good to be home in more ways than one.

Bloat is a horrible thing..... everyone should know the signs and then hope that you get a vet that understands it is not something to be messed with. I hope I never have it happen to another of my babies 2 in a lifetime is more than enough for me.

I am so sorry Toonces. Petey certainly did have 3 wonderful years with you. I know it doesn't make it any easier, we still miss Greta. Perhaps they are playing together now.

Oh my friend - You know my heart breaks with yours. It is so hard to lose a much loved family member. I read about Petey on FB when he passed. Such a difficult time for you. Please don't feel guilty. Petey would not expect that. He would want you to go on, remembering him with love and laughter; not tears and sadness. Life goes on. That's what Petey would want for you.

And Toonces - I love you Grand Ol' Man.
