How to overcome the irrational fear of losing your pet.

Hi again!

I thought I'm probably far from being the only one who experiences this issue so for the future users who might come take a look at this... Well you're not alone.
Whenever I have a new arrival I get really anxious over the tiniest thing.
A skin infection, an eye irritation, ingrown toenail lol you name it.
My mind starts spiraling out of control thinking that it might be the beginning of a terrible, terrible thing, a nightmare.
My rational mind and my experience of all my life with animals tell me that by far most of the times it's just what it appears to be, a cold, an eye infection, a stomach infection, etc.
Ragnar has an irritated eye, the left one and the inner corner is slightly swollen gets red and when he wakes up in the morning he gets some sleep.
Nothing spectacular, it seems mild.
Anyway without going into more details because that's not the subject at hand but an example. How do you stop thinking something terrible is about to happen and keep checking on your dog/cat/rabbit,etc all the time for the slightest change and filled with fear.
How to keep that at bay? It's a terrible feeling, like something's sinking in your chest and at the same time some kind of under control panic. And by that I only mean not to run away crying or something heh.
Growler gave me some good ideas.
Anyone who experiences this that has some input here is welcome.

Hey Koteburo, have you considered seeing a homeopath?

No. It never crossed my mind before to be honest. But I don't see why not. Nothing to lose and it could help me.
Thanks
