I believe in that too Chico2. Last night when I picked him up he was crying so loudly. He just would not leave my side for one second. I even got my first semi kiss.

I had someone from rescue hold him while I said good bye to my foster Peaches. He almost pulled her out of the chair to get to me.

So indeed, he knows I love him and I think he will fight hard. I know I am.

What great news BM. I'm glad that he has finally found someone to love him and look after him like he's always deserved.

He's got a lot going for him, he's strong and he's determined. I gotta believe he's going to beat the heartworm.

Benmax, Maddox is stunning and in those pictures it is hard to believe he is in such bad shape. He looks so relaxed and happy just being loved up by you

Tomorrow morning Maddox goes to the vet, gets x-rays for hips and leg, ultra sound for the heart and also more blood work and tests.

Last night he was very protective of 'mom'; his first warning that someone was outside. He also understands what his 'baby' is and carries it around on demand. He was playing with his blankets and me on the floor, being very puppy-like. Still grappying one shoe of each and gathering them in the middle of the floor. Enjoyed a raw knee bone, had a great dinner and just chilled. Haven't gotten an official 'kiss' yet but I get the nudge in the morning.

I pray that all will go well.

Again, it is so sad to be placed in this position as he belonged to someone at sometime in his life. Why this has happened to him is beyond me. Such a deserving boy to enjoy the rest of his life...really there should be and maybe even can be, years to come.

I am not ready to let go. I will listen to my vet and we will take it from there.

I love him so.
Hi
(sorry I didn't read the whole thread before I wrote my post.)

I know of a man on another forum whose dog had heartworm and was treated for it and the dog, who is a rescue dog (cadaver dog) recovered! This man now keeps his dogs on heart worm meds all year round instead of taking him off them for winter.

I hope this gives u hope and I will be thinking of you both.

Debbie

Today is the day...

Thank you all so very much for your words, support and good wishes. Trust me, I do not feel all alone and want you all to know that I feel positive and strong.

Thank you GG for your call this weekend. You gave me a good kick which I needed.

Maddox spent a very quiet weekend with me. We did not do much walking which resulted in him pooping in the house - who cares! He was full of beans on Sunday (probably because we did not do much outdoor activities) and I had to alter my day and just laze around with him....which is what we both needed anyways. I got some stuff together for a garage sale next weekend to help me with his bills to come. Some things are difficult to part with, but when I look into those beautiful brown eyes - it's worth it. My daughter even gave up some things so we are doing this as a family.

This morning was difficult for me. I took his blanket and his favourite 'baby' and off to the vet. Gave him a huge hug and lots of kisses. Wished him the best of luck and told him he had to fight - as I accept nothing less.

The procedure will commence this afternoon and I will not leave my desk today in order to grab the phone. He is my heart now. I cannot wait to hear that everything is going well. There is no other way that this can go.

Duke tested positive for heartworm a couple months after I got him in 2003 and he went through treatment and had to stay at the vet for a week. It felt like forever but when he came home he was very sick and we ended up taking him back for a couple more days because his breathing didn't sound right.
When he came home we had to keep him relaxed for 6 weeks. He came through great but noticed he didn't seem as energetic like he used to be. We now have him on heartworm meds during the summer and have him tested every year. Sending good wishes.

Ok - so Maddox did not get the injection today. She is waiting until tomorrow for some reason..

So tomorrow starts treatment and I cannot see him nor pick him up until Friday. Oh boy this is not easy.....

On the brighter side - I feel better that he will be under observation.

Glad to hear he is doing well.

You are welcome, it is only such a tiny thing in comparison to what you do.

Like most of my threads they start off pretty simple and then get so darn complicating. I think I am thread jinxed!

Thank you for reading about him. He is a great wonderful boy and deserves the best of medical help. He is now under the rescue and collectively we are doing whatever necessary to save him. He certainly will not be left unattended and I have been reassured that he is going to be ok. I have to step back now as to making decisions for him as the rescue takes it from here. I will continue all necessary efforts in fundraising for him as all this is very costly for one rescue to handle on their own. I feel horrible that they are now burdeoned with this but there was no other option at this point. I of course remain is foster mom. We will see where it goes from there.

I do love him so. There is a reason why we met. I am certain of this.
