Kitty's enlarged scrotum
My mom has a 5 months old neutered himalayan who has an enlarged scrotum. I think it's the scrotum sac but I'm not sure. the protruded sac size is approx 1/4 of his torso length. I don't see or feel it on my 9 months old neutered himmie. My mom's kitty is an overweight boy so I don't know if the weight contributes to the size. The sac isn't hard but rather feels fatty/soft like his tummy. Does anyone know what that is? My mom's going to get an appt w the vet next week but I'm curious/worried to know the results.
More info on the himmie-- he's sleeping quite a bit (about 12 hours a day). When he's up, he's very active, jumping around and playful. And he's appetite is still good and he drinks quite a bit of water. |

Hopefully the vet will be able to give your mom some answers.

How long ago was the kitty neutered, HimmieMommy?
We've seen something similar in dogs right after neutering. The area is very vascular and sometimes there is seepage into the scrotum after surgery. If kitty will allow it, cool compresses to the area might help. In our case, the vet eventually used a needle to draw off some of the fluid and it finally healed properly. It took 4 or 5 weeks for the swelling to subside, though. If your Mom can keep the kitty quiet, that should aid in healing and reabsorption of the fluid, too. Let us know how it goes at the vet

He was neutered quite young-- at 12 weeks. My mom made an appt w the vet Wednesday so we should find out then. Hopefully it's something benign like accumulated fluid.

I've heard of a pice of ovary being left behind after spaying but is it possible that a piece of testicle could have been left behind after neutering?
Glad he's going to the vet on Wednesday .....good luck and keep us posted. |
