Luna - More lumps
Luna certainly is a lumpy dog!
A year or two ago, Luna developed a growth on her lip which was non-cancerous. She had part of her lip removed and it never came back. She has since had the lumpy muzzle (which, by the way, is occupying more of her muzzle now.) and multiple small cysts. The smaller cysts are on her head and seem to come and go as they please. I noticed last night, she was licking her toe. I asked her to stop and then realized something wasn't looking so hot. So upon closer exam, I found there was a rather large lesion, looking somewhat similar to the type of tissue that was on her lip. Obviously I'm no expert so the vet will be looking at it tomorrow. Is there a specific illness that causes multiple cysts in older dogs? The tissue on her foot looks like the lump she had on her lip: (warning: Gross!) This was after the first (unsucessful) surgery After the second successful surgey I'm currently keeping her foot clean and bandaged so keep her from licking it further until we see the vet, but what is this all about? It could be a wound, however, it's on the top of her toe and I would have noticed blood if she hurt herself on something around the house. The dogs do not stay outside in the blistering cold nor are there any immediate dangers to doggy toes around the house or yard. on the lump on her muzzle, it is now spanning the top of her nose, which causes a moderate change to her profile. Where her nose was straight, it is now slightly crooked. She still shows no signs of difficulty breathing or discharge, but yeah! I really wish i had gotten pet insurance for her before all this ! |

I'm very sorry to hear that. I hope all will go well with your dog. Most lumps in dogs are often benign in nature. I hope this will be of help to you: http://www.animalhospitals-usa.com/d...mps_bumps.html

phew.
an expensive pet month! So, it was an abscess that ruptured. She's on antibiotics and has a pretty purple bandage on her foot. Let's hope it heals nicely!! |

I'm glad it was nothing more dire, .unknown.! Whew!
I hear ya about vet bills. We try to couch it in these terms: how much is peace of mind and the health of the dogs worth to us? That gets us through each individual visit and we just are very careful not to ever tally up what it cost us to get them all through a year. for a quick recovery for Luna!!
