Soft coated wheaton Terrier

Hi, My husband and I are thinking of getting a soft coated wheaton terrier. Has anyone had one as a pet? Love to hear about their temperament, etc. We lost our 14 yr. old Airedale a year or so ago and now we're ready for another companion. Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

When we were first looking into which breed of dog to get many years ago, the wheaton had made it to our short list. I can't remember that much about all the research we had done back then, it's over 20 years ago now, but here's a link that might help.
I do think they're a very beautiful breed.

They are beautiful dogs but tend to have a ton of allergies in my experience.

If you've had an Airedale, then you can handle the Wheaton through the puppy stage to adulthood. Wheaton's are a lot more coat maintenance than an Airedale so bear that in mind. Really do your research through your local breed club on them. There are a few not so reputable places to get them from. They are lovely family dogs provided they have the right amount of training and exercise. We have a few friends who have them and wouldn't trade them for the world.

My aunt has one and they love her to death, but she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer... But then it could just be her.. Or maybe she wasn't stimulated enough...

Good luck in your search!

Wheaten with an "e"

When we found our little stray it was determined he was a wheaten mix so I joined the soft coated wheatens group on Yahoo. They also have a US rescue organization. They are great dogs but some have more issues than others (like all breeds) and it might be helpful if you joined the list to hear all about them.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the info

Sure appreciate all the information and heads up re the motorcitywebsite. All thoughts are very helpful and put us closer to deciding on our soft coated wheaton puppy. Do have a breeder in mind from Wallaceburg, Ont and they seem great too. Won't make the final decision for a bit but again thanks so much for caring to respond!!
