The best way to find the digital camera best suited for you, is for you to make a list of what you need/want. . . then find a camera that checks all the ticks.
Some things that might interest you; - Small and portable - Expandable memory (SD memory or Sony Memory Stick for examples) - Point and Shoot vs. small scale Zoom vs. Focus Lens - Easy Share options (plugs right into a printer, or computer to upload/print pictures) - Mostly portrait pictures - Mostly outdoor or indoor pictures - Megapixels - Cost ----------------------------- For me size was the biggest factor, I wanted something that would fit into my handbag - my camera comes with me EVERYWHERE! Its a simple point and shoot. I sacrficed megapixels (mine is only 2mp), and a zoom with my camera. Which is fine for what I use it for. I am in the market for a better camera 9mp and a super zoom! Something else to consider, I bought a Sony which is great - but it uses Memory Stick memory (only sony products use it) where if you get SD memory, many cameras, mp3, computers, PDAs and phones all use SD so you will have more use for a good SD card than a Memory Stick. . . .

THANK YOU JDG! Looks like it's going to be more complicated than I thought. I only know I want to take both indoor and outdoor pics of my furbabies, I guess there's much to research and consider. Things have gotten more complicated as I've gotten old, lol

I really like mine small compact and took great pick of everything so far I took the picks at my sisters wedding and I'm not and expert (actually quite bad) and turns out great. I have a Sony 4.1 megapixels cyber-shot.
3X optical zoom (smart zoom dsc-p73). we had to buy a bigger memory card but I think everyone does... Last edited by angie79; June 28th, 2005 at 03:34 PM. |

Great advice above but I guess I would ask how much are you willing to spend?
After you answer that, rank the points others have made in their posts above in order of importance to yourself. Third, after you've identified a price range and a list of features that are important to you, THEN find the camera that fits that profile. One person mentioned above they wanted a camera that was small, light and easily hidden in their bag. I actually wanted a digital that was larger, had the weight of a heavier single lens reflex film camera, and didn't care if I had to pack it away or not. Lesson: figure out what's important to YOU and then get into it versus the other way around. The only other thing I would say is that the quality of the image is pretty important to me, so a higher pixel number - 5.1 in my case - and a long lense (35X420 zoom) was also important. Good luck. Hope that helps. Rick C www.goldentales.ca |

hahah, Thanks for adding that Rick
I can't believe to TOTALLY forgot about cost!!! Duh! Shannon, go back and take a look at some of Rick's pictures, he takes alot of wide outdoor shots. Lots of scenery and colour. He also catches movement. Rick's photos look professional. His camera is a semi-pro/professional standard camera. Then go take a look at mine www.paulgraham.ca/gallery/Joey I take close up shots, static shots, head/shoulder shots. I generally can't catch movement, and the colours aren't as varied as what you see in Ricks. My camera has way less pixels, and doesn't have a zoom. Gets the job done, but not nearly to the same standard as Ricks. My camera cost about $250 Ricks probably (I'm guessing) is more like $1000

JDG and Rick, THANK YOU BOTH! I'm going to go and look at the pics now, I've seen some of them from both, and they're beautiful! JDG, your're price range is what I'm looking for, but I guess I have alot of thinking to do.
I will keep up updated on what I get, and post pics with the new camera when possible. AGAIN THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!! |

My brother, who is a big camera buff, got me a Canon PowerShot A75
It's very easy to use and carry, and takes great pics. |
