What do you feed him now? How much protien, fats etc?

When I saw that title on the side bar on the main page, my first thought was 'that better not be under the one for people'

he gets 3/4 c protein, usually buffalo or white fish, 1 c rice and about 3/4 c pureed veggies ( variety with pureed apple or blueberries as well) 4 x a day. it is alot of food for a 46 lb brittany. he is quite active and his liver disease obviously, uses up alot of his calories. 6 squirts of salmon oil a day also.

what is the reason for the rice and the veggies? is that a requirement for dogs with kidney problems?

I would think that would make it harder for him to digest food, but I am far from an expert. You could ask your vet to refer you to a animal nutritionist for a safe, weight gain diet.

he cannot have too much protein as it is not good for the liver. without carbs he got REALLY lean.

Many people swear by satin balls to help up a dog's weight. I found a site with the original and a bunch of variations you might like to look at.
