Sick kitties....

*sigh* Just as my life calms down I find a bit of blood in the litter box in some rather radioactive looking poop. Of course since I didn't see who *did* the deed I can't tell which one it is (Leo or Pawz) Sooooooo

I have poor Pawz locked in the bathroom with a litter box, a toy, a bit of water, and some food (unless he decides to break into the food container then he's got lots) and Leo is out roaming the house as per normal for the evening. Oh I can hear Pawz mauling the door already >.<

Tomorrow when I wake up I will find the perpetrator and call the vet. If they still haven't pooped by then the separation will continue. They can't go all day without pooping....can they? O.o

I feel horrible about it but I only have one cat carrier and have to walk three blocks followed by a five minute bus ride to get to what is going to be my new vet. Stupid bus system. Stupid lack of money.

Hopefully it isn't anything serious. I haven't got the money at the moment and my parents don't get paid until Thursday/Friday (I believe) so hopefully the vet be able to wait until then (if its that bad) to get paid.

Megan

Oh they so can go for quite some time without poopin....I was trying to get a sample to take in (actually it was a pee sample) Fagan the stinker was in a room by himself with water and food and a litter box.... and he held it in, the vet had to squeeze it outta him.

Anyhow, good luck and I hope yours aren't as stubborn as mine!!!

dtbmnec,

Sounds like a good plan! One trick - the more they eat, the more they poop! If more radioactive material is made - you may want to save some in a ziplock baggy till you go to the vet.

If the cats are feeling and acting 100% normal and funds are tight - you may consider asking your vet to run the fecal test for you first. Then you may know what you are getting into... Ideally, I would recommend the examination but if funds are tight...

Good luck.

hehehe Thanks

They are feeling and acting 100% and it seems to be Leo who's got the mushies. Its not radioactive at this point but its really really mushy. Pawz's poops are just fine.

Now this brings up another question of sorts (I'm still calling the vet later this morning)...

Leo for the last year (since I got him) has been trying to get rid of (what I can only assume) this hairball. He does all the coughing/hacking icky sounding noises but nothing comes up (sometimes undigested food if he's just eaten). The weird thing is that he does this for about two or three weeks a few times (over those weeks) and then he'll be fine for two months. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I'm thinking its a hairball because of a few things: 1) he's an indoor ONLY cat - the closest he's been to outside is in a carrier on the way to a vet 2) he's been de-wormed and de-parasited enough times that if anything has survived they've got to be close cousins to cockroaches

The radioactive poop happened to follow after one of these bouts so I'm wondering if there's a connection....

Megan

P.S. Will update when I'm bringing the poor guy into the vet....

Appointment is at 12:20 today YAY

Good luck at the vet today, megan! I hope the poop is satisfactory for their purposes... he he Wouldn't you just love to be the technician who gets to go through it with a fine-toothed comb, so to speak? I think of that every time the 6-Pack needs to send in 'samples'

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnd...

His exam is fine. He's healthy, weighs perfectly right and is a really cute cat.

Got some of that metronozidale (??) to make him have happy poops again. Also got some stuff to help with his crazy reoccurring hairball issue. Its Tuna flavoured!

So all is good and happy in the world once more....then again maybe not...Leo is kind of mad at me

I guess you can't please everyone, eh?

But great news about Leo's results! I didn't know metronidazole was used in cats, too. We always keep enough of a supply on hand to get our 6 through an entire weekend if we need to Don't know what we would've done without it considering all the unhappy poop episodes we've had in the past! (Ours aren't usually radioactive, though! )
