Nerve degeneration in dog

I have a 6 year old bull terrier mix.

We found her when she was aprox. 2 years old, she was badly injured from a back leg and never regained complete use of that leg.

Three weeks ago we noticed she had some minor problems to walk with her back legs (some weakness to move them in the morning or after lying down for a while) so we took her to the vet. They told us she has a nerve degenerative problem in her column and we need to reduce the swollen in her back nerves. She started with high doses of cortisone and tramasol (for the pain) and also a Missing link supplement (Glucosamine) but unfortunately she has been getting worse in the last 2 weeks.

Now she is barely moving her back legs, the vet says this is not common but might happen and is recommending hospitalizing her to administer intravenous medications.

Is this the best course of action? We are relentless to administer her even more medicines that don't seem to be working and we would like a second opinion!

Evelyn,I am sorry to hear about your dog,I really cannot advice you,but I am sure someone else will,just be patient,it's Sunday and many people are busy.
I think we all hate to medicate our animals,but if it's needed we have to.

What type of injury caused the original damage?

If the dog is not responding to the drugs, is the vet continuing them?
