Not true. It has a slightly lower percentage of carbohydrates than the adult foods and a little more fat or protein, which is a good thing for any cat, but otherwise the difference is negligible. If one was feeding it too an overweight cat, I'd say feed a touch less to balance out the marginally higher amount of calories.

Here's how it compares:

Iams Kitten
protein 36%
fat 57 %
carbs 7%
fiber 0.6g/100cal
calories 47 cal/oz

Iams Lamb & Rice adult
protein 33%
fat 57%
carbs 10%
fiber 0.5g/100cal
calories 42 cal/oz

Iams Salmon adult
protein 35%
fat 52 %
carbs 13%
fiber 0.5g/100cal
calories 42 cal/oz

But ya, Wellness has higher quality ingredients and would be a better choice than Iams in the long run.
