very sick poisoned cat

My sons cat became very sick Sunday night, threw up a lot.. They took it to the vet Wednesday when they got home from work, should have done it sooner because by then it was just laying around hardly moving. The vet kept it overnight, and his suspicions are that it ate something poisonous. I check out the list for plants, and they had none that were dangerous. They have searched their basement, and the only thing right now that they can find is some drops of water where their chlorine tank had leaked. The chlorine would be diluted with water, but still strong. Do you think a cat would lick up something like that, having a chlorine odor? They're going to ask their vet, but I'm wondering on my own. Also, this cat is strictly indoors.
