That would be wonderful if you could take a kitten into your family! Whichever you choose will be a very lucky cat...

As for the vet visit, it might not be a bad idea to have them all checked out if you haven't already, just for an initial health check and worming. We have a cat that has eye discharges and has sneezing spells. The vet think it's a feline herpes virus. Most cats get it and recover from it in their first few weeks, but it becomes chronic in some kitties as it did in our JD. For some reason, his immune system didn't clear the virus out. If it were me, I'd have Sassy checked by a vet just to make sure there's no underlying immune system problem.

There isn't really any treatment for chronic feline herpes, though sometimes the addition of L-lysine can help. Also, making sure they're eating healthy can boost their immune system, as well. And some people find that if you put kitty in a humid place (like a bathroom while someone is showering), that it can help with the congestion. All in all, though, it isn't too bothersome to JD. He only gets occasional flare-ups now.

On another note, has your family considered adopting two of the kitties? Adopting two gives them a friend to play with and keeps them from getting too bored. An idle kitty can get into a fair amount of trouble (the same is true for puppies ) Just a thought!

Congratulations on your new addition, whichever you choose!!
