Red face Warning for Cats and Banisters

So, I walked in the door yesterday and was chatting with dh when all of a sudden a blanket comes flying down from the second story closely followed by poor Fred . We have a high ceiling in our front room and the staircase goes upstairs and then there is a banister that overlooks from the second floor open to the main floor. I often hang blankets etc over that area to dry them and I guess Fred decided to jump up on there and then the blanket slipped and caused him to fall (approx 15 feet).

He landed on all fours but then ran away on three legs so I was freaking. He was hissing and all scared but let me pick him up and then he just melted into me. He let me check him over and then still limped when I put him down but got progressively much better over the next few hours and seemed fine by bedtime. I think hubby must have rolled on a tender spot in the night because he jumped up and growled but quickly returned for a cuddle. I dosed him with some arnica this morning (don't know why it didn't occur to me last night ) and he was stalking Desi by tonight .

Anyway, wanted to post a warning to everyone who might have similar setup to watch out for items that might pose a slip hazard to overly adventurous cats.
