Apoquel is probably a lesser evil than Prednisone. My dog was on Atopica, you could look into that one as well, it was around before Apoquel. If you get to the point that baths and over the counter antihistamines don't help either Apoquel or Atopica is well worth considering to relieve your dog's agony.

Ditto blood work. Some Vets now believe allergies are a symptom of a gut issue. In hindsight this IS TRUE for my dog. After serious illness in which Lymphangiectasia was diagnosed and recovery from that disease he is now itch free and not on Atopica or any other allergy med for three years. Bloodwork at age 5 that showed a low albumin count might have given us a heads up but my VEt was unaware. We now, since the Lymphangiectasia, see a Holistic/Integrative Vet and my dog is on a special diet, TCM and acupuncture. I had no idea acupuncture could target gut issues as well as muscle aches and pains, but it can.
