All the dogs and even the cats were trained to "come" to a specific/distinct whistle - by mouth (not the really loud one w/ fingers in the mouth either cuz I can't do that
), also a slightly different one was used as a "come
NOW". Still works to this day w/my 18yr old cat in the apt
Haven't used the dog specific whistles, though I always wondered if they elicit a different response as compared to normal whistles
