Some eye discharge is within normal. Environmental factors, such as cigarette smoke, dust, cleaning solution/paint fumes/etc. can all trigger a reaction--and usually at lower levels than would stimulate tearing in human beings. I would be concerned if the actual globe (the eye ball) were red, the cornea was hazy, or if there was evidence of upper respiratory symptoms, such as coughing/sneezing. If none of these are present, then I would not be
concerned.
