That would be the easiest way--but then LP would have to figure out what details to leave out to simplify the pattern.
And if the projector lens isn't perfectly perpendicular to the floor, there will still be distortion of the design.
That might not be the end of the world, though--my brother painted a room at dad's house by shining a light through his model train village and painting the shadow that fell on the wall. Then he moved the light slightly and painted the new shadow in a slightly different color. Moved it again and painted with a third color. The effect was pretty spectacular! There was still distortion but the 'echo' effect gave it an arty look.
