Need Liquid Diet Recipes for dog with megaesophagus problems

I need any info regarding making a liquid diet for my dog. She has not eaten now for 3 days but has had water. She refuses to eat since i brought her back from vets. I tried the diet they gave me but she doesn't like it. I need to get some nutrition down here. She is losing her energy. I have heard about "missing link plus" but can't get it till Thursday or Friday and today is Sunday. I also heard about STAT high calorie liquid diet for dogs but it seems it only is in the US. It will take to long to get here. Any help i would love to hear from you.

Thank you

I'm sorry for your doggy's health issues. :grouphug: What about force feeding with a syringe? Did your vet have any suggestions? :o

What food did your vet give you?

When my cat refused to eat, I fed her chicken broth baby food through a syringe or off my finger if she had the energy. I also grinded her dry food into powder and mixed it with mashed wet food and warm water.

You can also try homecooking and blend/puree all the ingredients into liquid.

Here a recipe from Ann. Martin's book (for active dogs so it would put on wieght):

1 pound ground meat fat included
4 hard boiled eggs
1 cup cooked oatmeal
1 cooked potato
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup raw carrots
1/2 cup raw green vegetables
1 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp minced garlic
Multi-vitamin/mineral tablet

I'm not a fan of multi-vitamins but I would give vit C. Also, instead of olive oil, I'd use fish based oil. I'd also add rosemary and a tiny amounts of kelp. If this is something that works, variety is key - you'd need to use different protein, veggie and carb sources for a balanced diet.

This site has a couple of recipes that are "to put weight on" as well:

my cats megaesophagus recipe. can be altered for dogs too

my 1 yr old cat has megaesophagus very badly and needs a very liquidy diet. i adapted it to dogs and it may help yours.
i use the science diet canned ad available from the vet. it has antioxidents in it which can help her fight anything on the horizon. here is the recipe.

1 can of science diet ad
10 scoops of esbilac powder
richards wellness tonic( contains all natural antioxidents which boost the immune system) use 1 days dose according to your dogs weight on the pkge
1/2 tsp benebac(or whatever your dogs dose according to the package would be)
20 scoops of warm water(may be adjusted according to your dogs tolerance of thicker or thinner formula)
use a fork or blender to mix together and suck it into 20 or 30 cc syringes and i feed my cat about 10 cc per hour. keep the animal upright for 10 min after feeding and pat thier back to burp them. by burping them you are eliminating thier need to burp once you set them back on the floor. often with my jack if he burps once back on the floor it is followed by reflux and his chances of aspiration pneumonia are greater then also.
my jack is going in for his barium test in the am but i will check my mail on mon evening. sincerly elissa
