how to get my kitten to eat

hi...I got my 4 month old kitten three days ago and he's not eating any dry food at all...it's dry food for kittens(Whiskas) and he won't eat it at all. he eats the canned wet food but not even that much...what should I do?
help I've never had a cat before.

Canned food is actually much healthier for male cats especially as it can prevent the occurence of urinary blockages and infections. Perhaps trying another brand or mixing in some baby food (chicken etc) will entice him to eat? Many cats also like tuna a splash of tuna juice on the food to entice eating.

How much is the kitten currently eating in a day?

Are you feeding the canned food and the dry food separate?

You can try mixing them and see if this helps.

Like TeriM said, I would concentrate on feeding him canned food. Ditch the dry (especially Whiskas:yuck:). There are so very many reasons why wet is better, which you can read about here: http://www.catinfo.org/ Also, if you scroll down to the part about transitioning cats from dry to wet, there are tips on enticing a cat to eat. What was your kitten eating before you got him? You might have to go back to that until he adjusts to all the changes in his life.

And just so you know, you can leave wet food out for free-feeding.

You may also want to try a prepared raw diet if you can, Nature's Variety is one. I am fostering some semi feral kittens (now tamed :cloud9:) and they would not eat cat food at the shelter. I feed them raw and they devour it, their muscle mass is so much better than other kittens.

If you don't wish to feed raw, Kitten Wellness canned is an excellent high protien food for your kitten.
