Kidney disease and hip fissure
 

Hello friends! I haven't posted in a while but I'm always keeping a eye and through Facebook.
It's been quite a ride having a baby and all.
I have 2 important questions that I hope someone can assist me with or give me some advice.

1.- An acquaintance of mine on a cat group on FB has a cat she loves very much with kidney disease and she's very worried and frustrated because she has lost her appetite. What can you advice either for her appetite and/or to ease her kidney, purify it with alternative medicine. :pray: please

2.- Recently our Latis jumped from a wall and she has a fissure in her [scratch hip it's not the hip] sacroiliac bone we've seen the X-Rays and the vet says there's no displacement or total fracture so she needs pain killers and rest but I wonder if that would be enough for her hip to heal?
If you have experience with anyhing like this please :pray: help.

Do you know how old her kitty is, and how advanced the CKD is?

What does kitty eat currently? Has she tried anything else?

Is she on any meds?

No experience with cats, but we had a dog with a hairline fracture in a vertebra from sliding into a deck rail--no displacement and no complete fracture, and it healed up just fine with rest :thumbs up Hope your Latis is feeling better soon!

Thank you Hazel. Latis has no displacement either so hopefully that'll do the trick!
And SCM I'll be asking her tomorrow. I'm under the impression she's a senior but I'm not sure. I also think she's on a prescription diet which I already hoped and advised for it not to be kibble because I know it's one of the worse things you can give a cat with CKD.
I'll come back to comfirm all this as oon as she tells me.

Well she's younger of what I tought.
She's 7 years old and was diagnosed with CKD 4 years ago. She has been managing OK until she had a crisis due to an antimflammatory medication she was given. Her levels of phosphorus, urea and creatinine sky rocketed. (The medication was for a different thing when she hurt a paw).
She feeds her a Royal Canin Prescription diet for CKD (and yes, it's kibble)
A suplement called Ipatikine, Omega 3 and a vitamin paste called Nutrigel Plus (for recovering or sick animals)
Brenda (the cat's mom name) tries adding fish broth, like salmon or tuna to the kibble to encourage the kitty to eat but she says it doesn't always work.

So that's the scenario :shrug:

Imagine she started at 3! And she's still young :( poor girl.
BTW Hazel, Latis is limping but getting better slowly :thumbs up thanks God her stomatitis gave her a break she's even eating treats and solids!

Sounds like maybe a congential issue (the CKD, that is)?

The most important thing is that she eat, and prescription kidney food often becomes unappealing to cats because it's so low in protein. I would suggest to your friend to start offering her kitty a buffet of different foods (wet food especially!) and not to worry about the special diet (which is controversial at best - newer thinking is that it isn't about the amount of protein, but the [U]quality[/U]).
