High-quality dry food question

Hi all,

I know this has probably been asked a million times before but I couldn't find what I was looking for on the search button.

I volunteer for a local rescue and have gotten quite involved. In the past I have done research for my own kitties regarding food so this is where this is stemming from.

Does anyone know where I could find a list of good quality DRY cat food? I know wet is best and its what I feed my babies but the rescue in all reality can not afford the large bill! They currently feed RC now and encourage adopters to use this too. I am in a postion to educate them and change the RC for something better but not more expensive, kwim?

Thanks in advance for any help or links you can send me :D

Definitely needs to be grain-free brands like .....

1. Orijen ......www.orijen.ca
2. Wellness CORE .....www.wellnesspetfood.com
3. EVO ....www.evopet.com

There are other brands if you do a google search but those are the main three.

Holistic Blend might be a cheaper option. One of the local cat rescues here uses that, along with Orijen and canned Wellness (much of it donated - are there any organizations or pet food stores in your area that would be willing to donate to your rescue for a tax write-off?).

At our local Global, there are donation boxes for local rescues set out in the store for people to donate food. The only thing is, though, you can't control the quality of food that goes into the box. Most people donate kibble, I donate large cans of Felidae that they can mix with the kibble so the kitties are getting some moisture. Not worried about the bacteria, these kitties are feral (TNR program) and are starving so the food is gone in minutes.

Just a question related to the topic but not a suggestion as I really dont know and dont want to suggest anything ...

What is the general concensus on Kirkland Cat food? I dont feed it but have been looking at it, especially for the random barn cats that cross through here daily, a nice snack for them may just make their day

I read that Costco had a grain free brand available that would be much better than the regular Kirkland one.

If it is a rescue and not a shelter then could you suggest at least FF or Friskies? I know neither are great quality but they are wet. Doesn't catinfo.org say even the worse wet is better than the best dry? They are still a tiny step above the store brand kinds IMO.
If you can't I have found Taste of the Wild is one my kitties eat. You just have to watch the diarrhea as it is quite rich. I also use the Kirkland brand for supplemental feeding with the Catty Cats. As I have stated before in the winter they eat more dry as the wet freezes too fast. They may be mostly semi ferals but they are very well fed ones. :D They don't always eat right away. Kirklands' first ingredient is chicken. I have not seen a new one at my Costco but that could be because it is still in testing and not available at all stores.

It could be available only at the Costco stores in the USA right now but that's where the OP is from. I wish I could remember what it was called ....Nature something, I think.

Thanks for all suggestions everyone. I think I will check out Kirkland's to see if that would work.
