A better pic of one of my Hawks..

He comes a couple of times a day, knows I have Pigeons here..
He's killed three already,I know he has to survive, but I wish he had something else to eat...Does anyone know what kind he is,his wingfeathers are greyish.. |
My guess would be a Cooper's hawk, chico. Could be a Sharp-tailed, too, but they usually take smaller prey than a pigeon. Beautiful hawk!

I second Hazel, think that it is a Coopers. Very beautiful bird. patti

Thank you,yes he is beautiful,he's very slender and not all that big,but big enough to fly off with a Pigeon.
You know I love "my"Pigeons and it is brutal, but it's nature. I'll check on Coopers Hawks,I think they are very common, right. |
Cooper's are fairly common and this time of year they're on the move, so it's not too unlikely that you'd have one in your area.
|
Hazel,I always thought he was a Coopers Hawk, except his wing-feathers are grey, not brown.
We also have a bigger Hawk coming around all winter,I think they know the Pigeons come here to eat. I suppose in the summer they have enough fields to hunt mice, rabbits etc, then they come here in winter. |
Only the immature Cooper's have brown wing feathers, chico. An adult would be grayish on the wing--for either a Cooper's or a Sharp-shinned.
